Excellent USA Today article about Mary Cheney (don't hit me)-read it
I was glad to see this very good article in the USA Today providing details of her life, including her and her partner sitting together during Cheney's convention speech and Alan Keyes' remark. This article points out the hypocrisy of the outrage against Kerry for mentioning her.

2. This is KEY!

They were nowhere in sight for the convention finale a day later, following remarks from Illinois Republican Senate candidate Alan Keyes that, as a lesbian, Mary Cheney is a "selfish hedonist."

Alan Keyes, running as a Repulican in a state he did not reside in, said the above. If I were the Mom, I'd be much angrier at the above statement than anything Kerry or Edwards have said.

I'd be taking Keyes down no matter what party he was with.

Hey Lynn and Dick, get your priorities straight!

Go after the man that has said the worst about you daughter!

5. Hypocrisy plenty
a Republican could probably call her a stupid ugly dyke with terminal halitosis and knobby knees, and they wouldn't bat an eye. But Kerry tries to say something nice, and they go ballistic. They really piss me off.

8. in light of their recent "outrage"
seems to me that they agree with Keyes and if possible would toss their daughter in a closet and lock the door

it pure two-faced hypocrisy and they place political gain over family

7. ya know
If cheney didn't want to make a big deal out of his daughter being gay -- he shouldn't have gone publically outraged over Kerry's comment

the only reason this is even in the papers today is because he and his wife made public statement about how upset they are -- otherwise Kerry and Edwards comments would have fell to the wayside and the focus would have been on real issues

part of the diversion of attention to keep the public from focusing on other issues which probably will hurt bush* in the long run

what it comes down to is bush* needs to rally his base and further divide "fence sitters"

It was news during the 2000 campaign that Cheney's daughter was gay -- so Kerry/Edwards mentioning of it is not an 'outing' -- meanwhile the subject wouldn't have even been brought up except "smirk-boy" wants a constitutional amendment.

and as far as their comments go -- I thought they were supportive of how Cheney&wife&family accept her. Now that Cheney-etc. are "upset" leads me to believe they want to keep her locked in a closet and are embarassed.

in my family - both myself and my brother are gay -- and our parents/family are accepting and supportive -- we are among the few lucky ones to have such a family
