A Rovian propaganda piece in Stars and Stripes on troop "satisfaction"
Survey: Servicemembers satisfied with military life, but feeling more stress

http://www.estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=24932

Note the date on the data provided: July 2003. What could be the motivation for a mlitary paper reporting "servicemembers satisfied" just before an election, using 15 month old data no less?

http://www.stripes.com/04/oct04/survey.pdf

Note the 1999 data in the bar graph, when Clinton was president. The Defense Manpower Data Center (whoever they are) will have us believe that military satisfaction was much lower during peace time, when monies were being pumped into the military family morale and welfare infrastructure (since diverted to the Iraq war under Bush), than during war time, with back to back deployments, fighting an unanticipated guerilla war and taking on tasks that our troops--active duty, guard, and reserve--are not trained for.

GOP propaganda at its finest.

1. What % of military vote did W get in 2000?
I haven't been able to find it but I'll bet it was higher than the 69% everyone on the airwaves is trumpeting.

Ah republican math - no wonder they can't balance budgets they always leave out part of the equation.

okay back in April (I think it was) 308,000 new jobs were created (later lowered to the 260K range) and the air was filled with 308! 308! 308! .....but what happened to the unemployment rate? NOTE- this was when they were still using actual Dept.of Labor stats not the "Home survey" they are citing now. The unemployment rate went Up a 10th of a percent but no one mentioned that. It was a net LOSS bfore they lower the first number.

"Kerry is wrong about 1.6 million jobs being lost that is the private sector jobs. The real number is ONLY 900K" BAM! see Kerry is wrong. But what accounts for the 700K difference? Uh GOVERNMENT JOBS-but no one mentions that part because it doesn't fit into the "less government" BS the Repubs have been selling for 30 years <NOTE-Reagan and Poppa Bush AVERAGED adding 100K jobs to the govt. payroll over their 12 years in office> and it illustrates that W&Co. are propping up their performance by hiring.

I could go on but you get the picture.

2. Curious that RWers are so concerned about Kerry's number crunching
when those same RWers were no where to be found when Bush was running up a 7 trillion dollar national debt.

7. That money didn't go to support the troops and their equipment needs
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 08:34 AM by lebkuchen
And now the GOP thugs will have us all believe that the soldiers are going to vote rethuglican because they're as pleased as punch with life in the military. Not the platoons who have been deployed to Iraq since December, and are fed up with the lack of basic protections.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6255918/

But hey, Rove had already told us he had last-minute-before-the-election sleights of hand up his sleeve. Little did we know how laughably amateurish and ludicrous they would be, based on what we learn with each passing day's revelations of increased dissension in the ranks.

8. And it didn't go to make sure the military could vote
I haven't seen a report on that in a while.

Whoops forgot to make sure your solid base could vote....or did they decide that the numbers weren't as one-sided as they were so they dragged their feet on that?

10. If there is anyone who won't want the military to vote, it will be Bush
He is going to lose massive amounts of military family votes this time around, and many of those votes are being sent to key states, like tax-free Florida. That's where the fraud will take place this year.

11. Texas, California, and Florida
It seemed like half of my unit was from one of those states. We know how two of them will vote but Florida? Not so much.

BTW- when re-enlisting many NCO's I knew changed their official residence to Florida-no income tax (Texas and Cali too right?)

13. Correct on CA and TX
though I tend to meet more Floridians than anyone else. CA is in the Kerry camp, TX is a foregone conclusion, but FL is on the table. Overseas absentee ballots, arriving now, BTW, will favor Kerry overwhelmingly when you include the non-military expats. Those are the ballots Jeb's people are going to be most interested in, IMO.

3. Those dates are very telling and why they are out now.
I have been into other sites on the service and they do not sound that happy. I also am willing to bet that not many are taking MAT trips to Spain any more.

6. It's Rumbo "Ministry of Misinformation" up and running!
Do you remember shortly after the 9/11 attack when Rumbo was on TV bragging about setting up his "Ministry of Misinformation", that he hoped to use to confuse and confound the "Enemy"? Well I guess the "Enemy" is the American People, because that's who the GOPers are ALWAYS lying to and trying to fool! Anything you can't see with your own eyes, you'd be crazy to believe, if it comes from this misleading administration! All they do is misinform! CYA is their only worry!

12. He was too busy making oil deals with Kenny Boy about then!
ENRON was a higher priority than national security, until "9/11 changed everything forever"!(9/11 cost Bush a million jobs too damn it)

Ministry of Misinformation = Ministry of Propaganda

14. I wish Cheney would get busy putting out fires in Iraq
rather than starting new ones.

Four more US soldiers killed in Iraq today, who knows how many wounded.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6095119/

It's a sure bet the US won't be hit by a pre-election terror attack stateside. There are too many, easier, US targets to go after in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Can you believe that bit of July 2003 data compilation is Stripes headlines today?

The real headline should have been the platoon that had refused orders because it was too dangerous to do so. That piece was flatlined at the bottom of page six, perhaps answering my own question as to why 15 month old data is front page news while the refusal to follow orders isn't.
