26 US Troops Killed in the last 5 Days!
http://icasualties.org/oif/ (click on 'view fatality details' to see the breakdown)

This needs to be front page news!!! I can't stand it anymore!
I know the numbers of Iraqi civilians are much higher. and more morally significant too, since they're innocents on the receiving end of our aggression and the chaos we've unleashed there, but we know that'll never be headline news, at least not before nov. 2. please don't assume i am forgetting the civilians, but my real point is...
Popular opinion can be strongly influenced by reports of US deaths. We all know that the arbitrary landmark of 1,000 US troops killed made the news, if only for a minute. and we know the descent into chaos is becoming extremely pronounced right now in iraq. but most americans truly believe the rhetoric that the situation is getting better, that most of iraq is under control.these attacks on our troops are happening all over iraq, not just in 'pockets' of insurgents. this needs to be known! who can we call/email/fax? help!!!

5. WE know this, but the American people either don't know, don't care,
or don't want to know. I just can't make up my mind what the problem is.

People are always so surprised if, when talking about Iraq, you give the the breakdown on the numbers. And I just don't understant why. It really freaks me out. Is it because no one they know is there, they haven't lost anyone there, or just because they don't figure that this issue has any impact on their lives? Or are they just that stupid and lazy? Can't be bothered to look for the information. They should because Iraq changed not only this country, but the way the world thinks about the US. And it has not been for the good.

17. they're in denial
that their tax dollars are funding this mess.
the more real it is, the more people realize that, to some extent, we the people are responsible. not only responsible for it happening, but responsible for putting a stop to it.

I had no idea the number was climbing as fast as it has. We're only two away from 1,100 dead soldiers.

11. Welcome to DU, Selatius
I'm glad for this site where we can find the truth. Now if it only makes us free! Free of Bush and his evil crowd. The death toll keeps growing, troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, and all the civilians who are doing nothing but trying to live their lives. This is beyond outrageous--words are failing me lately.

DEFEAT BUSH!!

8. The silence is deafening.
I thought when a 1000 deaths were reached there would be some sort of response. Nothing.

14. Media not interested in doing anything
except cheerleading. Repukes don't care as long as the soldiers aren't their familiy members. Repukes love to pay lip service to "support the troops," but they sure as hell aren't interested in enlisting and putting their asses on the line.

Stalin was right about that. As far as the media and public are concerned.

Just cannon fodder..killing and dying for nothing.
