Help: How does one evade the war tax? |
|
Disclaimer: This is a personal struggle--my intent is not to shame anyone.
After reading William Blum's "Killing Hope," I can't help but conclude that my country--the United States of America--has been the leading terrorist state since 1945. And this recent Fallujah bombing has only reinforced this (Kerry's election won't change shit--based on Clinton's abominable 8 year record, it's possible a new Democratic president could surpass Bush in the body count department).
And I'm a good German.
I've protested, I've ranted--but I'm still complicit in funding the manufacturing of bombs that are used to scorch children. As a religious man, I confess there are nights I can't sleep, for I feel I'm going to Hell for the blood I've got on my hands (and I would appreciate it if the secularists on the DU keep their remarks to themselves). I don't know how I can be a Christian and finance mass murder.
I'm 22, and ignorant of these kinds of things. Does anyone have a link, or advice, for evading the war tax?

1. I disagree with what you say about American terror , Clinton and |

Kerry , but you are right on the money about our tax dollars . If our direction does not change , we are all going to have to come to grips with our complicity in what our government is doing . If , God forbid , W is reelected then the American people will have ratified this illegal , immoral war in Iraq . Those of us who oppose it will have to find ways to underscore our opposition and that will include protests and withholding of taxes . Sadly , we will have to be prepared to do this even if Kerry is elected and does not rapidly move to shut down our occupation .

2. there are two legal ways to evade the war tax: |
|
(1) don't make enough money to pay income taxes.
(2) leave the country AND give up american citizenship AND don't make enough u.s. money to pay u.s. income taxes.
beyond that, reconcile yourself with the idea that the decision is not yours alone.

I sympathize with your agony--but it's not 'your' money. That's a little prideful, IMHO.
The Federal Government prints as much money as it needs. Right now, it's doing it by the tankerful.
If you give them no money, they'll print some, give it to the defense contractor, and you'll have accomplished nothing.
And if you're doing it to make yourself feel better, if you do ANYTHING, you give 'your' money to someone else, and they pay taxes, and 'your' money is at it again.
You can refuse to pay your taxes and go to jail, as many have done, but evade?
Rather than evade a negative, maybe you should consider positive action. Protest, organize.
The best way to evade a war tax is not to have war.
