I am a 'Brit' living in the UK and I need suggestions for questions I could ask a forum member on a British site , to check whether he is telling me the truth when he says that he is American . I think that he is another forum member and has just adopted another persona in order to play a trick on me .
I need about eight or ten questions that he should easily know the answers to , and so can answer quickly , if he is an American . If I just asked him one or two questions , he could quickly google the answers , before replying to my post , so there has to be enough questions so that he wouldn't have the time to look up all their answers .
Thanks everyone , I hope you don't mind helping me out .
Oh , and can you supply the answers to your questions too .
Thanks again . :)

8. ooh... that depends on age. |
|
Under 30 and I can't answer that question.
I can't think of anything that is specifically American anymore... we're so subcultured that what Jack, a beer drinking, bronc'-bustin' Texan might know is terribly different than what I, an urban intellectual in a liberal city know. And very different if he's 60 and I'm 20. Also, geography plays a huge part because we're such a MASSIVE country... I couldn't tell you much about New York because I've never lived there, but I know LA, Phoenix, Seattle, Denver and other locations like the back of my hand...
More details: where is he claiming to be from? Age? What's he saying? Check his spelling: How does he spell theater, color... ask him how he pronounces and spells the word that is the metal that soda cans and aircraft and foil are made from. How does he pronounce schedule? Does wash have an /r/ sound in it (that may be Midwest or Northern England, though...)

And I just don't get the feeling that he's being honest with me . I know I don't like his views , he's a staunch Bush supporter , and we clash as , of course , I am desperate for Bush to go .

"colour" as "color" "sulphur" as "sulfur" "aluminium" as "aluminum"
we don't use "orientate"
...and probably a few more.
Better yet, as him which he prefers: Jim Beam or Jack Daniels. (even though I, a yank, prefer Jameson...so maybe you should just ignore me)

Of colour and sulphur , but I didn't know that you spelt aluminium , aluminum . Though it does explain why you pronounce it so , I always thought it was odd . Why don't you use the word orientate ?

These might not be exclusively American, but here you go:
1) What's a hall pass? (A pass one receives in grade school in order to leave the classroom with permission.)
2) On what night is high school football played? (Friday)
3) How many senators does your state have? (Every state has two.)
4) At what age does his state allow him to vote? (Trick question, it's 18 across America.)
5) Who do you think has the best chance of winning the National League divisional playoff in baseball, the Oilers or the Devils? (Trick question, neither are baseball teams.)
6) How many beef patties are on the Wendy's Whopper, one or two? (Trick question, the Whopper is at Burger King.)
7) Which one of these states was not one of the original thriteen colonies: Maine, Vermont, or Florida (Trick question, none of them were.)
8) Which side is the hot water on, the right or the left? (left)
9) Only two men who were not a president appear on US paper money. One of them is Benjamin Franlin on the $100 bill. Who's the other? (Hamilton)
10) On what denomination does the answer to #9 appear? ($10)

21. Q: What was 'The Minnow'? |
|
A: The name of the Skipper's boat from 'Gilligan's Island.
I choose a question like this because there's not enough unique wording in the question to make a web search feasible.
Other ones (also hard to look up) might be ...
Q: Who was 'Silver'? A: The Lone Ranger's horse.
Q: What was 'Trigger'? A: Roy Rogers' horse.

All my spare time at the moment is spent reading about this election and putting in my 'two penneth' worth , on various forums . I cannot stress how much George Bush is loathed . I truly believe that if he is selected this time , he will lead us all down the inexorable path to Armageddon . I am fearful for the first time in my forty odd years .

33. Ask him "What comes after 'Hold the pickles' ? |
|
(It is from a Burger King jingle from the 70s)
Answer:
"Hold the pickles Hold the lettuce Special orders don't upset us All we ask is that you let us serve it your way."
Other advertising slogans he should know:
What famous "Wendy's" slogan was used in the Mondale/Reagan campaign? Answer: "Where's the beef?"
Finish this sentence: "I can't believe I ate the ? ... "
"Uh-oh! Ring around the ? ... "
"Maxwell House. Good to the ?... ."
These slogans are dated, so if he is a younger guy they might not work.
