Helpful tip for fans of breaking news
Or maybe everybody knew about this but me, but the AP Wire site now has a Raw News page. This is particularly helpful when there is breaking news that hasn't been confirmed, eg the other day with Christopher Reeve's death. Just keep hitting refresh and eventually an AP News Alert will come up (at the moment, Pierre Salinger's death) and suddenly you're cooler, or at least more credible, than Matt Drudge. (Not much of a challenge to be cooler.)

Stories are arranged such that the more recent ones are at the top, but some of these are just updated stories from earlier in the day or even previous days, so check LBN for at least the past three days before posting one.

Link is here:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/fronts/RAW?SITE=SCCOL&SECTION=HOME
but if you lose it, just go to the AP Wire (simplest is to google it) and then look for the link on the left-hand menu labeled Raw News.

Although as much as this pains me (believe me it does) I have to give Drudge credit for reporting that story first.

3. It's easy to break a story if you're willing to run with it without
getting independent confirmation. That's why most people don't have any faith in Drudge.

4. No love loss with me and Drudge.

I don't care for Drudge mostly because of its right leaning tabloid like rhetoric trash that feigns for journalism. But this is the second occasion where they were reporting something before anyone else seemed to know the scoop. The other incident I can remember is the early ousting of Gray Davis by the Gropenator.

5. Didn't mean to imply any criticism of you
and I think we're all pretty much of one mind here regarding Drudge. It was fun those five minutes when it looked like he was going against Dubya, though.
