There are two things our media are good at: The manufacture of |
|
paranoia and the manufacture of consent ( with apologies to Noam Chomsky). The manufacture of paranoia through the generation of an endless supply of enemies helps keep the population on edge and makes them support third rate 'leaders'like Bush with his Churchillian fantasies;the manufacture of consent is to create the outlines of the political discourse so that no one is allowed to stray too far from the limits without being tarred as a Conspiracy Monger.
I should probably add a third thing our media are good at:genuflecting to those in power or more colloquially, giving BJ's to the powerful and ignoring the obvious.
"There is nobody who is anybody in the newspaper or broadcast business who is not directly or indirectly controlled by the CIA"---- William.H.Colby, Director of CIA.
