Singin Them Naked Emperor Blues

These days, being a citizen in Bush's America is a lot like being one
of the subject along the parade route in the fictional Naked Emperor's
kingdom. Our Emperor, like the one in Hans Christian Anderson's fable,
is surrounded by his court chamberlains, minister, and has the added
modern touch of having a lapdog press to serve as his mouthpiece and
shield him from reality.

It seems to me that we are at a place in our national history equivalent to that of the subjects lining the Emperor's parade route.
They all stood there viewing his Royal nakedness and did not utter
a word until a child out: The Emperor is not wearing any clothes. As
Bush nears the end of his term in office, if we wish to save what is
left of our civil rights, environment, economy and national honor and
standing in the world, each of us must be the voice that speaks of
Bush's unfitness for office. Each of us must be the voice not afraid to speak the truth.

No where is Bush's lack of grip on reality more evident than in his
reasons for the invasion of Iraq. First it was the impending mushroom
cloud, the non existent weapons of mass destruction. Then is was
Saddam's evil regime that needed overthrowing. Then, in June 2003,
speaking to Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas he said it was
because God instructed him to strike Saddam, and he did. Tell it like
it is. The president lied. Say it. Do not Label it anything other than
what it is. Our president is a liar.

Our fearless emperor claims to be establishing liberty in Iraq. He is
so insulated from the real world that despite the deaths of thousands
of Iraqis and 1092 American soldiers at this point, he says that things are going, well, great guns in Iraq. And as he goes about
liberating the people of Iraq, he demands loyalty oaths from American
citizens who wish to see here in the former land of the free. Here in
the U.S. he does not tolerate any dissent near his royal person and
he tolerates no dissent with regard to his policies. Speak of his
desire to trash civil liberties. Speak of what you see and feel going
on in your own country.

The concept of participatory democracy are too difficult for our
intellectually challenged president to understand, so he simply
disregards them. The idea that the president is elected to reflect and
protect the will of the citizenry does not figure in his governing
style. But that is to be expected. He was not actually elected, but
is instead the first appointed president in our history. And we all
see how that is working out. Speak of the coup. Do not call it anything but a coup. People in our society sat still and did not take
to the streets to fight it because they had no first hand experience
with third world politics. Now we do.

He has sold our country to his campaign contributors. Instead of
making policy to benefit the common good, he makes policy that
benefit those who perpetuate his presidency. He made energy policy that benefited his family, his vice president and his friends in the
oil, coal and electric industries. At every opportunity in his
administration he chose to fatten the bottom line of his corporate
buddies over the welfare of American citizens. Speak of his willingness to sell our beautiful country to the highest bidder.

He has declared the job market to be healthy and growing despite sending good jobs overseas so his corporate friends could benefit from
the lower wage structures in those countries. Then he has the nerve
to tell those whose jobs he exported to go to the nearest community college and bone up on new skills even though a great percentage of
these people have four year degrees. This makes no sense. Speak of the
stupidest president in US history encouraging good, hard working,
intelligent people to dumb themselves down to fit in his staggering
economy. Speak of the blind cruelty and arrogance of it.

Please join me in telling our unelected Emperor that we have had
enough.

Please join me in sending his buck naked ass back to Texas on Nov. 2.

All the best.. Pat

3. I thought it was great, but threads seem to drop
like a stone in GD unless they are somewhat controversial. The more people agree with what you are saying, it seems the less attention it gets.

Keep up the good work! :)

4. Time travel must exist.
How else can you explain Hans Christian Anderson's parable about King George?
***************

Once upon a time there lived a vain Emperor whose only worry in life was to dress in elegant clothes. He changed clothes almost every hour and loved to show them off to his people.

Word of the Emperor's refined habits spread over his kingdom and beyond. Two scoundrels who had heard of the Emperor's vanity decided to take advantage of it. They introduced themselves at the gates of the palace with a scheme in mind.

"We are two very good tailors and after many years of research we have invented an extraordinary method to weave a cloth so light and fine that it looks invisible. As a matter of fact it is invisible to anyone who is too stupid and incompetent to appreciate its quality."
