What is a newspaper endorsement?

Does anyone know how they work? Is it really an endorsement from a John or Jane Doe, but since nobody's ever heard of that person, they call it an endorsement from the newspaper?

Is it the endorsement of the editor, publisher, somebody else?

Please educate me.

There is one though I know of that has stated they will not endorse a candidate, becuase they do not want to be partisan. It's a republican paper too that won't publish too many pro kerry LTTE.

Because I just found out that the Chicago Tribune has endorsed the chimp.

This fucking sickens me! I urge everyone who lives in or around Chicago to stop buying this piece of shit paper. Chicago is one of the most liberal cities, and these assholes have some nerve endorsing an ignorant, mean, lying piece of shit like Bush.

Please boycott the Chicago Tribune!
