Jesus spoke these words, I guess dubya missed church that day...
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are the meek,
for they shall possess the earth.

Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they shall be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice' sake,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

1. Ah, yes--the Beatitudes...beautiful words, indeed
Jesus also said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I find myself wondering if there's ANY verse in the Bible Bush could quote without a script in front of his face. Maybe he could remember the shortest verse in the Bible--"Jesus Wept"? I have a feeling Jesus would be weeping now, for what this so-called "man of faith" has wrought in His name.

there is also mention of war in the bible too :eyes:
Matthew 24:6-8:
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Romans 13:1-5 (RSV):
1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.
2 Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval,
4 For he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer.
5 Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience.

what is sicking is that if you go to bible.com
they have as thier first "questions and answers" section is war and terror :eyes:
i guess alot of people need amunition to say that "well the bible say this too" so nah :eyes:

3. As a liberal Christian
I would say that the best bet for everyone is to stick to the words and ideas that are attributed to Jesus.

The writings of Paul are a bit dicey and should be left to the theologians. Paul takes us into areas that might lead folks (myself included) to conclusions not in the best accordance with the message of Jesus. And I'm content to let theologians sort that all out.

4. Here's my take on Paul:
He was certain that Jesus was going to return to earth very soon--during Paul's lifetime--and set up his kingdom. That is why Paul was fixed upon spreading the gospel with all haste, and why he had a problem with marriage, deeming it a distraction from the goal of carrying out Christ's mission. (Though he did concede, "better to marry than to burn"). And why, too, the new Christians in the churches he established drove him so crazy with their sinful ways. Rightly so, of course, I'm not denying that. He just wanted them to stay focused on their purpose: Spreading the gospel quickly, and not getting sidetracked with what to him were trivialities.

Just a thought. Our goal, of course, is to...
