Just encountered a repug at a crafts show |
|
I was wearing my Kerry / Edwards pin at a very nice crafts fair (not really crafts as much as local vendors coming together for a Christmas show) and there is a place that always comes around that sells the best homemade soup starters... well... the guy who was giving out samples said to me "what is that on your button" and i said "my Kerry / Edwards pin" and he said "oh why are you wearing that? i guess its a moment of insantity... don't worry you will smarten up later. Its just a moment of insanity" and then i replied... "well you know what your moment of insanity was?" and he said "what" and i replied " saying that to a costumer who was just about to buy allot of your product and from now on never will." and then i put my basket down and walked away... then my parents who also had their Kerry pins on put down their huge basket and walked away too....

10. What an idiot--and bad businessperson! |
|
How stupid is it to alienate potential business?
I' e had a couple of similar experiences.
In 2000, a paint and wallpaper business redid a Gore/Lieberman sign to read Gore/Liarman--and put it in their window! Now I never had need to go there before or since, but if I ever need anything they carry, they'll never get my business. I have a long memory.
Found a Chinese restaurant I liked, and it wasn't until the second or third trip that I noticed, while paying, that they had some anti Hilary fake money--something about the travel office I think--under the glass. I've never been back.
Now, granted I likve in a heavily repug area so I'm sure it does them more good than bad to badmouth Democrats, but they're not getting any help from me.

My husband would like to have a K/E bumper sticker on his truck but he has refrained because he does home remodels and is in and out of a lot of people's places. He and I both felt that it wasn't proper for him to advertise his political leanings on what is essentially a business vehicle, especially since it is not his business but his friend's.
It always amazes me when people antagonize the very folks they're trying to sell something to! You handled it perfectly.

I would have done the same thing. There is a little farm near here selling pumpkins, gourds, indian corn, etc. for fall. They also are stupid enough to have a Bush/Cheney sign in their yard. I hope they lost business because of it. I sure as hell didn't stop there. I'm all for supporting the local small farmers by buying their produce, but I have my limits. Too bad about the soup though, I love those samples they have a craft shows.

16. I Hate When That Happens |

I was at a civic flea market, with presenters from region-wide, and I was browsing, and came upon this display case of little pin things, medals, patches-----------and before I could realize what they were, I bent down to look closely, and they were all these Nazi memorabilia things.
It hit me like a blow to the chest. Of course, I know that motorcycle dudes and others "do" these things and I "get" ----------oh, hell, never mind. I don't GET it and never will and DON'T WANT TO.
So then, the guy tried to "explain" that I shouldn't RECOIL. I just left his display case.

I just noticed a Bush/Cheney sign in the window of a local business, I thought I might utilize someday. I won't now.

19. Bad Form to use business to push politics |
|
At least I think so, and I say that either way. I certainly wouldn't use a business that puts Bush/Cheney signs, but I'm in business for myself and because of that I haven't put bumper stickers on my company car.
