You know who is taking shots at Jon Stewart
A friend told me Drudge had a polling roundup on his website. I checked it and found a piece by MD talking about how The Daily Show experienced a 7 percent dip in ratings from August.

First off, since it's from Drudge the numbers are probably completely bogus. But assuming they are accurate, there is one thing that changes from August to Sept. that might hurt Stewart's core demographic. Summer ends and people go back to college which for many means less time to watch TV. Im sure there are other reasons, but that one came to mind first.

6. That's not really true
Edited on Sun Oct-17-04 07:55 PM by RummyTheDummy
I think many actually have it. I went to a large state school and cable companies offered a huge discount to college kids in dorms. I think my basic cable was 15 a month.

2. Plus, how many repeats are shown in August?

In my state, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State U went back to class during the 3rd week of August.

26. I rest my case, then!
The ratings period is for the whole month, not the last few days or week or so. Everyone is at the beach or at some vacation spot if they possibly can get away in August, or at the least they are out partying and enjoying the nice weather with friends/family.

This is not a statistically significant deviation month-to-month. Note that Drudge couldn't link to a reputable journalist; he could only write his own poorly researched, poorly-written, non-spell-checked story. I mean, "erroision?" Please, Matt. Go suck cock. Go with your strengths. Go suck Ann Coulter's cock. Seriously. Begone. Shoo.

11. C'mon, man- Drudge?
No need to offer an explanation of Drudge's numbers. It's safe to assume they're just bullshit.

The only way to deal with these right-wing propagandists is to completely ignore their arguments. Why let Drudge steer our conversation? He's a liar.

20. If anything
this smackdown delivered by Stewart on CNN will only increase his ratings. Freepers don't watch his show anyway. They couldn't possibly get his jokes. His demographics are college educated (no offense to the stoned slackers).

Go Jon! You played Hardball with Crossfire and won.

21. i seem to remember...
Wasn't it about that time that Comedy Central was dropped from "basic cable" stations? There were quite a few markets that ended up losing CC and a few other stations. They were added to "premium" status.

23. Of course, even if true that DOESN'T MEAN
less people are actually watching the show. it only means that they're left home and their choices aren't being recorded up by the ratings services- which any statistician will tell you are laughably flawed and innaccurate.

Of course, the networks have to have some measure in order to price their ad time... so even a totally bogus one is better than nothing.
