I angered a right-winger in church today |
|
The minister was asking for prayers for individuals, my church, and the world. People gave a variety of responses and one was for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. The minister added "and other coalition forces" to the request and I couldn't suppress a smirk and a note to my neighbor "Coalition = Grenada and Afghanistan" A right-wing lady in the choir, facing us in the pews, noticed. Usually friendly, she blatantly gave me the cold-shoulder after the service.
I really couldn't help it; I do take the prayers seriously, but all this talk of a "coalition" is crazy. Few have any combat troops and most WERE bribed or coerced--overtly or not.

9. What!!??? Pray for those Middle Eastern heathens!!??.... |
|
After all, don't you know that only the Fundies will be invited to go along on the Rapture?
And don't you know that Chimpy will be offered a seat on the right-hand side of God? Jesus might be a little miffed to have to move over but he'll just have to get over it, won't he?
All of those billions of other people practicing other religions around the world will just have to go to Hell. Chimpy believes that he's helping tens of thousands of Afghans and Iraqis by giving them a head start.

That would have been worth saying out loud and risking angering the entire congregation. (In my opinion)

I would have said it, walked up, and left.
Heck, I even respond to newspaper editorials outright these days.

Praying for killing. What would Jesus do?
Don't walk, run from that church.

The minister HAS prayed for innocents before, but the congregation only offers up prayers for the troops, "our" leaders, etc. And I think he was praying for the protection of the "coalition," not killing. It was just the word "coalition" that got me.

I rest my case. The preacher including the "coalition" should send up red flags galore.

17. I doubt the congregation is saying "Father in Heaven, |
|
let our boys kill all of their boys." I think it's probably more along the lines of "Father, bring them home in one piece." And I most heartily approve of the last one.

For: These are the end times. The troops are fighting for Israel and Jesus. Then Jesus will take over the earth and the heathens will go to hell.
Like I said, don't walk, run from this church.

14. The church I attend includes a |
|
prayer each week for "countries torn apart by war and terrorism," a polite way of saying Iraq and, I suppose, Afghanistan. Interesting that there is collective amnesia about who started the war that led to all of the continuing violence and terrorism.

18. I got fed up with biased church services years ago.. |
|
It got to be too much for me to handle. I couldn't sit through church services that DIDN'T ADDRESS the real needs of all people.
In my former church, the ministers and congregation IGNORED anything that was happening outside of their realm...except for ABORTION. It was like NOTHING ELSE EXISTED and that bothered me.
At least in your church, they are praying for something besides gathering souls and building a new ENORMOUS church someplace else.
I CANNOT be sitting in a place of Worship along side others who are so ultra conservative....it's like mixing oil and water. So, I dropped out...kind of sad really.
Best wishes~~
