5 HUMAN Deaths from CJD in Ulster County, NY (Mad Cow Disease)
My advice is never eat meat again. This should be conflated with the Flu Vaccine Fiasco.

pataki's Health Dept. is trying to cover this up but this is really Bush's fault as well for giving in to the beef lobby.

Fifth Upstate Death Linked To Brain Disease

Oct 16, 2004 5:00 pm US/Eastern
(1010 WINS) (KINGSTON, N.Y.) A woman who died last November was suspected of having Cruetzfeldt-Jacob disease, bringing to five the number of Ulster County residents who have died within the past year from the rare brain disorder, according to hospital officials.

Kingston Hospital spokeswoman Deb Muise said an autopsy determined the woman died of CJD, according to the Times Herald-Record of Middletown in a story published Friday. Further details were not released by the hospital.

The Daily Freeman of Kingston reported Wednesday that the state Department of Health was investigating the deaths of four Ulster County residents who died of CJD in recent months.

State health officials said Friday there was no public health risk, adding that preliminary tests showed some of the suspected cases have been ruled out as CJD. Health officials declined to release the number of cases ruled out citing patient confidentiality laws.

1. In New Jersey, 11 people who ate at same restaurant died of it.
They were all linked by the fact that they went to Garden State Park, a horse track in Cherry Hill (near where Bush is today). Scary.

Just google "mad cow garden state park", you will get a dozen links. George Young, ex-GM of the New York Giants, a well known sports figure, died of CJD, and he ate there.

4. All the more reason....
All the more reason to be like that "Chik-Fil-A" advertisement, and
"Eat more chicken"! I haven't heard of 'Mad Chicken Disease' or 'Mad
Fish Disease.'

Just a thought.....

7. I switched my meat-eating entirely to poultry a few years ago
It was after I saw a NOVA program on mad-cow. I hadn't realized until I watched it that you can't kill prions, no matter how much you cook the meat (or irradiate it, for that matter).

I haven't heard of any cases of Mad-cow or it's relatives in any sort of fowl, so I gave up all red meat. I'm probably healthier too, since I stick to free-range, organic chickens grown locally.

5. Actually, there may be up to a 30 year average incubation period.
"Madcow" comes from Prions which are different from bacteria, viruses, and various other microorganisms. In fact, it isn't even an organism in of itself, less so than viruses (which are basically free floating genetic material until it finds a suitable host). They are nearly impossible to destroy. Prions are basically faulty proteins that cause problems with the proteins in our brains and not genetic material in of itself.

10. Well THAT explains it
Have you not noticed that Americans don't give two shits what Europeans think of us? Each email someone gets from some arrogant Brit telling us why to NOT vote for George Bush is going to backfire, you stupid, yellow-toothed pansies ... I don't give a rat's ass if our election is going to have an effect on your worthless little life. I really don't. If you want to have a meaningful election in your crappy little island full of shitty food and yellow teeth, then maybe you should try not to sell your sovereignty out to Brussels and Berlin, dipshit. Oh, yeah - and brush your goddamned teeth, you filthy animals.

11. I've quit eating beef unless I know it's grass-fed
I don't trust our government to protect our food supply any more.

12. It's not just what they eat.
The carcass machines and killing bolts through the head splatter the mad cow prions everywhere in the meat packing plants. Hamburger and sausage and especially hot dogs are the worst because that is many animals ground together, greatly increasing the chance of contamination.

14. I don't eat hamburger, beef hotdogs, or beef bologna anymore.
I will eat a steak, or roast, but eat chicken and pork mostly.
Ya just can't trust our meat supply.
At least not with * at the helm protecting the corporate interests.

15. your headline is inaccurate
The most rare but well-known form of CJD is mad cow disease, which is contracted by eating the infected brain or spinal tissue of cattle. None of the Ulster County cases have been identified as mad cow.

Not to say the reporter isn't spinning for the Ground Round, but not all CJDs are mad cow variant-CJD.

16. There is an excellent e-book available on line
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 12:29 PM by Trailrider1951
here:
http://www.prwatch.org/books/madcow.html

It's called Mad Cow USA and it's a free download. Very informative, but you need Adobe reader to read it.

Also, on edit, I have quit eating all meat. I do eat fish occasionally, and organic eggs and cheese. And, a question: How do we know that those protein prions are not in the milk supply? And how do we know that our blood supply is not tainted? :evilfrown:
