BBV - Hamilton Cty OH. Nader on the ballot. KERRY removed.
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 03:35 PM by harmonyguy
Kerry left off some absentee ballots
-------------------------------------
Some absentee ballots distributed to Hamilton County voters do not include the name of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, local election officials confirmed today.
(snip)
"The tragic thing is that even though I think we will have a very fair and accurate count here, this will cause people to question the accuracy of our operation."
(snip)
"It's unfortunate it happened," Williams said. "But I don't think there's any reason for people to worry about the accuracy of the election."

-------------------------
Awwwwww, how very tragic, indeed!! Damn straight it'll cause people to question the accuracy. Since when is questioning goof-ups tragic?
What do they want to hear? Awww, you made a widdle boo-boo - it okay - you do better next time.?

What they SHOULD be saying is "We know we screwed up. We invite anyone who wants to inspect our processes to come on in, and ask us anything so that we can attempt to rebuild some of the confidence that the public had placed in us. We want you to examine everything so that you'll know that this was an isolated incident." (After the earlier ballot problem, we all know that won't happen.)

How about a three strikes rule for election officials?

3. I understand typos. But how in the world...
Do you leave a presidential candidate's name off the ballot "by accident"?

10. NO EXCUSES here... apparently, it's because they ROTATE the order
of candidate presentation on ballots for random effects (which are totally legit -- in and of themselves, BUT NOT when the DAMN printer screws up this badly)

5. The Democratic Party in Hamilton County is worthless.
Isn't it nice that Tim Burk is fine about this mistake.

There isn't much for Tim to do since there are hardly any Democrats running in Hamilton County anyway. It's easy to wonder what that man does when he gets to work every day.

6. I would believe this shit IF
at least ONCE one of these "mistakes" hurt the Chimp.

This makes me so incredibly angry and depressed. I just will never believe a Chimpy "win."

Get ready, it's going to be a bumpy ride....................

If the Chimp is declared the winner, I believe we REALLY need to strike the powers that be where they live and stop buying stuff besides food and fuel.

12. Actually, in all fairness,
I posted an news article a week or so ago, where Bush/Cheney had been left off the ballot. It DOES happen.

What this points out is that no-one should take voting, and vote counting for granted. Don't assume that you're properly registered - check and double check.

If you're not already a poll-worker, become one. Become a scrutineer. Become part of the solution, and don't wait for someone else to do it for you.

8. EMAIL THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW
Take action. BITCH to national media about this. MAKE THEM COVER IT. Send a letter to the editor of your local paper, citing this as an instance of BUSHCO thuggery. Call your local TV station and ask them if they are going to cover this. Email ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, and yes, even FAUX and alert them to this story.

BITCH, BITCH, BITCH! It is about time we stopped being vessels of the media, we need to TELL THOSE FUCKERS which stories we want to hear about.

9. here's the solution: public execution for anyone caught fucking
with the vote, by either intent or by incompetence.

It would clear up a whole lot of little shit relatively quickly. I can't think of one low down dirty belly crawling republican who would dare to intentionally "make a mistake".

33. that's my solution, too
make sure that EVERYONE knows that, in any way, to assist in the subversion of the vote of the people is TREASON, and will be prosecuted accordingly.

from little people tearing up registrations, to programers trying to fix the electronic vote, to RNC bigwigs, who are counting on all the little people to do their dirty work.

they have to KNOW they will be held accountable.

but i haven't heard anything like that.

37. Execution is a little harsh. I suggest a prison term of about
90 years unless it is just incompetence - Then only 30 years.
However, if the presidency is involved and it is intentional, execution is warranted.

As an old police detective I know said "In investigating crimes, there are no coincidences."

Yeah! That's the ticket!

"What is especially frustrating, Williams said, is that the mistake actually had been caught by the election board's proof readers. But when a broken copier forced officials to use an old copying machine, the old, mistaken ballot format without Kerry's name accidentally was printed, he said."

21. If I'm not mistaken, this was a punch ballot.
All the DRE vendors are always spouting-off about how their machines need to be evaluated in the context of a real election with real election staff and real election processes. In this case, it looks like the real staff with the real processes can't even handle low-tech punch cards. Can you imagine the screw-ups they'd make with a computerized system?

36. It's funny how in 1804 Joseph Marie Jacquard used punch cards.......
......successfuly to control looms for the silk industry, in the late 1880's Herman Hollerith patented a punch card system that worked so well for conducting the 1890 census, his company went on to become the International Business Machine corporation, which also used punch cards quite successfully for years as I recall.

Punch cards were used successfully in American elections since the 1960's and now, in the most technically advanced country in the world, we can't get punch cards to work reliably?

For a number of years punch cards were successfully used by up to 30% of American voters to choose our representatives.

Or were they?

Was it all a lie or are they trying to BS us now?

 I suspect I know your answer.

they happen in closely contested states the Republicans know they have to win.

Public schools, however, will be punished severely if the kids don't score well on standardized tests.

34. The best solution

Where offered, is just vote straight party ticket (All Democratic).

Remember, it's not just enough to vote in Kerry. We have to regain one, if not BOTH houses of Congress.

Otherwise we're just handing Kerry up for four years of slaughter.

35. In 2005, Here's What I Want President Kerry to Do:
Propose The National Fairness and Standardization of Elections Act of 2005

Part 1: 20 billion in federal funding to standardize all voting machines in the US (optical scan, paper ballots, the most reliable and user-friendly kind). States can sell back recently purchased machines. Diebold can go out of business for all I care. All scan-reading machines must meet federal standards. Machines must be in palce by May 2006 (before mid-term primaries).

Part 2: Federal Voting Commission (in charge of implementing the act, promulgating regulations, etc.).

Part 3: Oversight and Criminal Penalties Provisions (make penalties stiff).

The principal argument the President will need to make: "If we can spend 200 billion (or more) to bring democracy to Iraq, surely we can spend 20 billion to preserve democracy in the US!" And then just publically punish any nay-sayers as enemies of democracy and hypocrites.

I'm tired of this feeling that my core rights as an American (specifically, my right to vote) are in jeopardy!

-Laelth
