why does Zarqawi wear a hood when he beheads people?
If he doesn't want to be identified, then why does he do it personally?

Is he crazy?

1. Zarqawi isn't a person, "he's" an effin' CIA franchise. Can't have
the lie exposed.

10. Considering this is the same guy that was reported to have one leg
yet appeared in his first big gig with 2 legs, and was reported to have been killed and yet STILL appeared in videos, I wish it was truly as absurd as it sounds.

14. It is not below the CIA to orchestrate beheadings
they do whatever the hell they feel like doing to promote what they want to promote. if they want to promote a war, they could create imaginary resistance and imaginary terrorists. To them, the end justifies the means.

Wasn't there a plan for war against Cuba years ago where fake terrorists would attack around the US and they would blame Cuba for the terrist attacks as justification for war?

16. It's the terra equivalent
...of a Ronald McDonald costume. The only variation allowed is that the sword wielder can have either one leg or two.

24. Right. It's a brand. Like Coca Cola.
In earlier times, The Evil was OBL. But he is outdated now.

The face, the brand of The Evil is now Zarqawi. Marketing guys know how important it is to have a strong brand to sell something. To sell the TV audience the fairy tale "The Terror is everywhere", a strong brand is important.

2. maybe its because he doesn't want blood on him.
ain't that the coward's way. Maybe he thinks he can hide from God.

Oh, yeah, he would want his God to see him to know who to give 'his rewards' to.

there is no Zarqawi. Sure hope this is not an American ploy, wear a hood? only if the appearance is clearly identifiable. I smell something and it is not my socks!

17. It's not Zarqawi
"Zarqawi" is just a brand name for insurgents

The insurgents us "Zarqawi" because it hides the real identities of the leadership.

The bushgang/CIA/military use "Zarqawi" because it gives them a flimsy thread on which to hang their false claims that al Qaeda is involved.

18. The hoods thing is for anonymitiy
so that you realize that the people in the video could be "anyone".
Fighting a war of terrorism against "anyone" and everyone is the
ultimat act of hubris and will end in disastrous folly.

Imagine if, here on DU, there were no names, but merely rotating
numbers that changed every time you visited the site. Then it would
be impossible to determine whether one person, or many people held
a certain view, and in some respects, this can be a very effective
political weapon when there is no transparency.

It is the same technique the bush people use to suggest that "ALL"
americans believe what they believe, except for the odd one or two.
Every act of dissent proves them wrong... which is why they want
all their opposers to come out and name themselves so they can
defame them one at a time and feign that the last opposition was
the last mohican.

20. U.S. and media has turned him into the all-purpose boogeyman
The way he to pops up everywhere and is blamed for nearly every act of violence makes him quite a Satanic character and just as elusive.

21. Yeah, Saddam is locked up, and
...Usama bin Hidin so well we can't find him, so they need a new evil character to keep the show going.

But you can only take so much of that "new boogeyman" shit. It's like, enough already! TV just can't take too many character substitutions--the audience drops off. Hell, no one could have endured more than TWO Darrin Stevens in the Bewitched TV show. If they had tried to switch to a third one, the viewers would have rebelled.

I think Weecowboy is having the same problem--his viewers don't LIKE new characters, they want the old ones.

See, we have some GREAT video of Usama. Usama with the radio, Usama lounging in the cave, Usama firing the gun, Usama giving his little speeches, Usama walking with his peeps...tons of Usama footage! What a great enemy--but then, the bum runs off, and no one talks about him any more, like an aging, fading, actor.

Then you've got Saddam: Saddam firing the gun, Saddam waving in one of his many outfits, Saddam with Dan Rather, Saddam with Donald Rumsfeld (ooops, the weecowboy does not LIKE that one!). Saddam was GREAT when he was on the run, but then people wanted new footage of him, so they had to capture him. Darn--that kind of killed the plot; who to hate next?

Zarqawi!! Perfect--he's EVIL, he cuts off heads, he is a brute, he is so damn easy to hate! But there's a problem--what kind of video do we have of Zarqawi? We have a grainy, light photo of a guy who could be anyone, and a bunch of grisly, grainy footage of some asshole chopping off heads whilst wearing a bag over his head. It could be ANY asshole. That could be why people aren't getting behind the new evil character in this insane TV show.

We Media-Americans LIKE pictures, and we LOVE moving pictures--we like to pick apart expressions, clothing, surroundings, speech characteristics, the whole visual image. Zarqawi doesn't give us that, so he is just not cutting it as the New Satanic Character in the Weecowboy TV Show.

I have a feeling the show could be cancelled on Nov. 2, to be replaced with new programming starring two guys named John!

23. you all realize that
it is tradition for an executioner to be hooded? Especially in the middle east. I am sure that there are other people here who have travelled?

Of course--that doesn't mean that it is Z under the hood--or whatever. But the hood is an expected part of his costume. It would be surprising for the militants NOT to cover their faces.

Look at the men in middle eastern countries--check out the garb they wear--covering the face is EXTREMELY common in many situations--and I have witnessed many executions (lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 years--there were executions in the public square weekly)--I have never seen an unhooded executioner.
