I can't recall ever experiencing this. Even among those who hated him, they admitted that he was a brilliant politician (except, in their opinions, one with sinister ideals).

Contrast this with the hordes of people who openly consider Bush to be a moron...it's sort of interesting.

3. No, all I've heard
ad infinitum is that Clinton is immoral. Seeing that many Republicans are also guilty of sexual misconduct, I find this opinion rather strange and one sided.

7. That might not work in our favor
I mean if President Bush is dumb--well, a lot of people worry they aren't smart enough or they don't fit in with the smart set. So they identify with that problem.

The second problem is that President Bush isn't dumb--he's uncreative and has tunnel vision and stubborn, but i don't think he's really dumb.

9. Suskind's article held few surprises other than they revel in stupidity
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 07:20 PM by Monica_L
There was a comment from an unnamed Bush* supporter who said something along the lines of the more he mangles syntax, flubs his speeches, repels former overseas allies and obnoxiously postures, the more his base loves him.

The fact of the matter is, Bush's main attraction for them is that we're totally horrified by him. That's why now I believe that no matter what obvious corruption or treasonous scandal breaks before the election, his base will gleefully vote for their own demise because for the first time they have the power and satisfaction of being able to drag everyone else unwillingly down into the mire they wallow in. Especially the latte-drinking, NYTimes reading, America-hating liberals.

In a culture which celebrates excess and instant gratification, Bush is the ultimate self-indulgence for the willfully uninformed and unempowered masses. Plus he's kicking foreign ass in the name of Jesus. The irony is that he's the rich wasp version Rocky Balboa who pummels an innocent country into submission because he's painted the scary face of Saddam Hussein onto all its inhabitants.

11. It's not so much what the media doesn't report -- but what it does
that was the jaw-dropping moment for me when I read that incredible article last weekend. Where have these people been the last four years?

Scandals have been breaking at a regular intervals since inauguration day but as long as the media keeps up the square-jawed, cocksure man of action persona, the behind-the-scenes gory details (which they drooled over during the Clinton years) are of no interest to them.
