This is an important documentary, and every DUer should be watching it.

22. I could not watch the whole thing...
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 01:44 AM by BeHereNow
Honestly, I thought it came off like a two hour
ad for the evangelicals...
The omission factor about EVERY story they told
had me ready to chuck things at the TV-
Curious though, did anyone catch the reference
to GWH's father supporting "population reduction?"
I'll say- it was more accurately described by others
as EUGENICS.
Scary documentary and very weird that a two hour
ad for evangelical bush supporters was aired on SUNDANCE?

10. It is pretty obvious where these people
view the democrats as coming from .... the fiery depths of hell! It is their religious duty to keep the demoncrats from taking power, or God Himself will get really mad.

either that or 23 million- Check the Yuricareport.com site-
She just had a story on there that stated numbers.
I can't wait to see this doc- coming on at 8PM here in
California.

Bush really thinks he is annointed as a prophetic Messiah to lead people out of evil (in so many words), that he is chosen by God to destroy Evil. Tweety seemed shocked. What does Tweety do all day? How can he not be on top of this? Suskind said he had talked to all of that base and they all say the same thing. Tweety seemed concerned for the 1st time.

15. I believe you meant to ask me that question....
I saw him briefly on tweety tonight. He was really great about exposing the depth of the Religious Right's involvement in bush*s presidency and re-election. The scariest part was when he said he went out and interviewed many Evangelicals who actually think "GOD PUT BUSH* IN OFFICE To GUIDE THIS COUNTRY"! :wow:

.... You know I always suspected these people were that far out there and now Mr. Suskind has confirmed it for me.
:scared:

It's an 11 page article in the NYT Magazine. It's a real eye-opener for anyone who hasn't followed Bush's faith-based leadership style, including how he rejects empirical data, values expedient decision-making over thorough thought processes. Also shows some incredibly stupid gaffs on his part.

Without a Doubt
By RON SUSKIND

Published: October 17, 2004

Bruce Bartlett, a domestic policy adviser to Ronald Reagan and a treasury official for the first President Bush, told me recently that ''if Bush wins, there will be a civil war in the Republican Party starting on Nov. 3.'' The nature of that conflict, as Bartlett sees it? Essentially, the same as the one raging across much of the world: a battle between modernists and fundamentalists, pragmatists and true believers, reason and religion.

''Just in the past few months,'' Bartlett said, ''I think a light has gone off for people who've spent time up close to Bush: that this instinct he's always talking about is this sort of weird, Messianic idea of what he thinks God has told him to do.'' Bartlett, a 53-year-old columnist and self-described libertarian Republican who has lately been a champion for traditional Republicans concerned about Bush's governance, went on to say: ''This is why George W. Bush is so clear-eyed about Al Qaeda and the Islamic fundamentalist enemy. He believes you have to kill them all. They can't be persuaded, that they're extremists, driven by a dark vision. He understands them, because he's just like them. . . .

''This is why he dispenses with people who confront him with inconvenient facts,'' Bartlett went on to say. ''He truly believes he's on a mission from God. Absolute faith like that overwhelms a need for analysis. The whole thing about faith is to believe things for which there is no empirical evidence.'' Bartlett paused, then said, ''But you can't run the world on faith.''

SNIP

"Faith can cut in so many ways," he said. "If you're penitent and not triumphal, it can move us to repentance and accountability and help us reach for something higher than ourselves. That can be a powerful thing, a thing that moves us beyond politics as usual, like Martin Luther King did. But when it's designed to certify our righteousness -- that can be a dangerous thing. Then it pushes self-criticism aside. There's no reflection.

"Where people often get lost is on this very point," he said after a moment of thought. "Real faith, you see, leads us to deeper reflection and not -- not ever -- to the thing we as humans so very much want."

And what is that?

"Easy certainty."

16. Very disturbed by some ending comments where Bush's black
and white view of the world was discussed, ie, Good Versus Evil. Howard Fineman, who I normally cannot abide, said that diplomacy cannot possibly work in a world where the war is presented as good versus evil. (or subtext-Christians versus the unsaved)

13. Let me tell you what I KNOW about this.
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 08:02 PM by vetwife
Everyone of you need to go this Halloween and rent the movie LEFT BEHIND. Most churches of the evangelistic faith have a play called Final Judgement. Now .....They believe that the UN is part of the beast but they have it all twisted. Bush's Rwingers have it twisted Just like the Bible. this is really really scary. The way I believe in God, God loves all people, all faiths. Not so in their way of thinking. They are trying to push the Rapture or gathering of the saints, get this part (BEHEADINGS)which would make the christians the ones who are beheaded, not the infidels, (see how twisted) of the people who are left behind. I am telling you...Maybe Bush thinks that we have been Left Behind and its time to take his place as the Anti-Christ which he is not...and set up his kingdom in the middle East. Much of this is in Revelation and Daniel and he is screwing with it like Archie Bunker. Why did he choose Iraq? Other than Oil..Listen to what Gore didn't say today. Read between the religion and the idealogoy and you will really get scared.

We are not living in the Old Testament era and there is so much symbolic in the bible and Bush is dangerous. I am telling you. DANGEROUS !

18. I agree ....
This is an area that I think needs to be studied closer. It's not enough to simply say, "Ah, I don't believe in that crap." Bush does, and a lot of other folks do, and they are willing to act on it.

19. Thanks ...I glad you agree because people would be shaking more
if they knew what his agenda is and why you cannot vote out or deal with a cultish person who believes they are on a mission from God. People who believe they are on God's mission run Planes through buildings. They do anything and I mean anything for in Osama's case 7 virgins or in Bush's case, the war between God and the Devil and the Throne of Israel and the 1000 year reign of peace. This is serious and this is his foreign policy. Better forget normal policy and go see Left Behind or The Tribulation. I know all to well about this. I have been a Preachers kid for over 40 years in the deep south and even though we don't see things this way doesn't mean that we are not very aware of it.

24. There was a thread about a week ago
regarding the question of "does Bush use a language which is in effect a code for the right-wing Christians?" I said that he definitely does. I'm familiar with the code and the intended messages. It is, in my opinion, one of the things that the public needs to understand. I view him as being about as grounded in Christianity as Jim Jones. I'll be back in the afternoon, and hope we can continue this line further.
