13. Start to be a political animal

by running for the lowest office available to you. Where I grew up that would have been Justice of the Peace. Here, where I live now, that would be as a member of one of the constituent school boards, working up to being a county school board member and then on to county or city council.

If you live in a small enough city/town you might even make a run for mayor. Start small and keep open for opportunities to get your name in the news (hopefully for good stuff, not for drunk driving or diddling underage paramours of either gender).

While in office, sponsor anything to do with kids...sports teams, scout troops, etc...and make sure you get your picture taken with them. Often.

Keep up at this pace and someday you too can be right up there with what we have to call 'candidates' today. (/cynicism)

it'll tell you all you need to know and more. Make you a better citizen, too. And hey, whatta ya know, if you do read then win a contest for Congress, you'll be one of the few in that body who've actually read the manual that created it.

10. I am 25 and running in AZ-5...so here are some

tips if you are still under the limit:

1. Make sure you have a good local party, mine has not helped me too much.
2. Get a lot of connections in the community.
3. Learn everything you can about everything. Voters will ask you all sorts of questions and it might have nothing to do with what the office you are going to be in but knowing an answer will make them happy.
4. Run on what you truly believe in.
5. And win so I can get some company when I get to Washington!
