Reagan's daughter sues over speech fee (stem cell issue)

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/10/19/reagans_daughter_sues_over_speech_fee/?rss_id=Boston%20Globe%20--%20National%20News

Patti Davis, daughter of the late President Ronald Reagan, has filed a lawsuit charging that the Salvation Army canceled her speech planned for one of their events because she supports stem cell research. Davis was scheduled to speak on Nov. 19 for a fee of $15,000, said her lawyer, Lawrence Fabian. Fabian said officials at the religious charity recently told his clients they no longer wanted Davis as a speaker because of her beliefs, and they would pay neither the speaking fee nor the $7,500 cancellation fee called for by the contract. Michael Watters, an attorney for the Salvation Army, said the lawsuit was "totally without merit."

1. They need to at least pay the cancellation fee.
It was their responsibility to determine the qualifications of the speaker BEFORE they signed on the dotted line. It's as simple as that.

4. Cool. Now contracts are "totally without merit" too, I guess.
Quite an outfit, that Salvation Army.

Nice to see they're taking time out from gay-bashing, and going after that sinster threat to decency and morality: contract law!

:freak:

7. Were the leaders at the SA unaware that the entire Reagan
family supports stem cell research? They have been pretty open about that as far as I know. Why did they book her in the first place? What did they expect her to speak about?

8. Just like a Reagan to wage war on the Salvation Army
I guess they ran out of Central American countries to abuse.

Come on...it's the Salvation Army, for Christ's sake.

10. So is the Red Cross
I still support the elements, and efforts, that aren't.
