Okay, my husband officially rocks |

Yesterday, my husband (DU's JohnYawl, for those who don't know) went to a rally for Senator Patty Murray put on by Washington Veterans for Kerry. It was something of an historic occasion, as Senator Murray was being endorsed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars - and the VFW has never before endorsed a Democratic Senatorial candidate. Senator Murray, as the first female member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, has done stellar work in preventing the closure of needed VA hospitals, saving benefits for dependents and military families, and many other protections for veterans.
Today, he went to an event for Washington Governor candidate Chris Gregoire. He talked to an AP reporter while he was there, and took the reporter to task for there being NO coverage of yesterday's event. The reporter made some lame excuses about how they have to choose what to cover, and John let him have it up one side and down the other about covering trash and scandal and trivia instead of actual, historic NEWS.
There are times he uses being a very large, loud, intimidating-looking Vietnam veteran to his advantage.

Today, I was telling him this story: Last week, this freeper "advisor" was at the business where I work. He was asking me about my husband's small business. I was telling him about a customer who is not paying us a large sum of money he owes. I told him we had thought about taking the guy's truck. He was saying "Yeah..." thinking I meant court. I said "No, I mean sneak down and take it in the middle of the night." He said "Oh no, you can't do that" (I was kidding, of course). Then, he said "That's something John Kerry might do" - because he knows I am a Dem.
My husbands response: "Well, George Bush would just bomb his house and kill and his whole family. That's what he would do."
I thought that was great.

Bush would bomb the guy across the street, who had nothing to do with the incident at hand.
But love that comment from your hubbie!

It was fun rousting this poor guy.(just some flunky from AP with a camera and a note pad) I was wearing my "Vietnam Vets for Kerry" pin, and as I started ranting at him I could see him shrinking back, obviously worried about some demented 'nam vet going postal on him.
It really pisses me off, though. The news about the VFW endorsement of Murray should have been frontpage NATIONAL news, dammit! It's the first time in the 25 year history of the VFW PAC that they've endorsed a woman, and a democrat.

11. The VFW PAC endorsed Wellstone 2 years ago |
|

Not to take anything away from Murray, but the VFW pac endorsed Paul Wellstone 2 years ago. I checked on Google and the links are gone, but here is one listing left on Google:
Wellstone for Senate 2002 ... The VFW PAC Endorses Wellstone for US Senate October 7 , South Saint Paul, MN The nation’s top veterans' service organization today put its weight behind ...
However, sounds like she's the first woman they have endorsed, which is pretty significant!
BTW: Your hubby does rock!
