Are you voting for Kerry, or against Bush?
Edited on Tue Oct-19-04 03:36 PM by Used and Abused
Are there still people who are voting "Anybody But Bush or Nader?"

Edited to Add: I really am impressed with Kerry, and I am voting FOR him. However, my hatred of Bush is stronger than my love for Kerry! I'm not sure where that leaves me!

51. Same here
Without Bush, i doubt i would be here today talking with you. He
has brought a whole generation ot of the woodwork to defend the
constitution. Once Kerry wins, i'll be confident that safe hands
once again are in charge.

Honestly, i've quite warmed to him. Originally, i felt a 100% ABB
voter, and every day, i like kerry more and more. It's not quite
love, like i feel towards dennis kucinich, but its getting there.

What more can i do. I just voted straight democratic on my absentee
ballott.

21. Why bother asking this? It'll just divide people more.
I'm voting against b*sh, and giving Kerry a chance to prove he's not a hyperimperialist. No way I can judge his presidency until he IS president, so why bother mentioning my qualms with him now?

Once he's in office, we'll see what happens. I just think it's pointless, this close to the election, to ask this question anymore.

...but yes, I have to admit: I'm more FOR Kerry than AGAINST Bush at this point. The same thing happened in 2000 with Al Gore.

Either way, Bush needs to go. Period. Not only is he gonna get us all killed (just so he can get paid), he should never have been in the White House in the first place. My moral compass tells me the man has to be held responsible for SOMETHING sooner or later.

39. Against Bush,
I've never been a fan of Kerry's, and given the bumbling, stumbling opposition he is up against in Bush, a Kerry presidency should have been a walk. Instead, it is turning into a swamp slog, with the prospect that matters won't be settled until well after election night.

That being said, Kerry has endeared himself to me a bit. Part of it was his acceptance speech at the Dem convention, part of it was his debate performance. Part of it is that I can't help but like a candidate that I'm working my ass off for.

But still, I'm really not expecting that much out of the man. I will believe in his Iraqi peace program when I see it. He has a six month grace period with me(and many other anti-war folks) in order to start bringing home the troops, as he promised. After that, the gloves will be off if he hasn't done anything. As far as his other promises go, well, they're simply promises, and he will only be allowed to pursue them if there is slack in his corporate leash.

All in all, any change at the top this year is good. But I'm not expecting Kerry to change the direction this country is headed, only the speed with which we are approaching the cliff edge. For real change in this country is going to require somebody unencumbered by corporate cash, otherwise the real wounds in this country cannot be healed, only have a Band-Aid slapped on them.

He just needs a little ass kicking come November 3rd with regard to Middle East policy. But he is smart and a good man and open minded and hopefully electable.

As someone who faced tough options and a low draft number towards the end of the Vietnam War, I am very grateful to JK and the Vietnam Vets against the war, they had a major effect in making people re-examine their positions on the war.

44. I'm voting for ALL DEMS! Not only for Kerry, but also for all dems
who are running! I think the decision when you replace someone, whether it be a politician or an employee, is to first decide you must replace the non-achiever, and then to find someone better to replace him with.

I have given some very serious thought to who I would prefer to Kerry, if that option was available. I haven't found anyone. There are attributes to a lot of politicians and negatives too. We will never find ONE individual who is ALL GREAT!

My biggest problem with the current govt situation is that one party in in total control, and that just doesn't work! I wouldn't want total Dem control either! I really am hoping for Kerry as Pres, and Dem control of the Senate. There's a separation of the 3 divisions of Govt for a reason. One is supposed to keep the other honest. It simply doesn't work with the collaberation we've seen in teh last 2 years!

And I have witnesses. I was wearing a Kerry campaign button when the press was saying his campaign was dead and scary right-wing co-workers were declaring he was dropping out of the race.

However, I find Bush DISGUSTING, utterly disgusting. If Orrin Hatch or John McCain or Gary Bauer were president and running for reelection, I would disagree with them on policy and still vote for Kerry, but I wouldn't be on the verge of tossing my cookies every time they opened their mouths.

I like Kerry, and I think he deserves a chance (a Dem Congress could help).

And, on top of that, I am voting against Bush. Why?

He is a moron. He is a shithead. He is arrogant. He is a bastard. He is a warmongerer. And, above all, he is dangerous. Very dangerous. I don't trust him, I don't trust his intentions, and moreover I don't trust the PNAC sleazeballs with whom he surrounds himself.

Bush has to go, and I think Kerry is a good choice.

Kerry has mostly run a shitty campaign. There have been moments when if felt more connected, but tonight I am just hoping Kerry pulls it off.I have hopes we can take back the House and Senate, too, just in case Kerry loses. Bush and Cheney need to be impeached.

However, he was not my first choice, and he better represent us if he doesn't want to be a single term President like bush.

79. Very good!!
Since the debates, I've begun to appreciate that Kerry really does have the temperament for the job. If he goes back on that promise that he does not intend to have permanent American bases in Iraq, I am going to be very seriously pissed off, though.

Back when there were many candidates, I saw him on TV speaking in a "town hall" style forum and was very impressed. He wasn't the front runner back then.

86. Violently against Bush BUT
Kerry won me over in the debates.

So I can feel good about voting FOR him.

I think the difference between the two is underrated. Lots of people think Bush is a disaster, but can't bring themselves to vote for Kerry. That costs us not only their vote, but then they don't recruit for Kerry. Now that I feel good about his candidacy, I *sell* him to other people.

I enjoy selling hope.

88. Originally, last year, I was ABB, then Clarke offered his.....
credentials. It wasn't that I thought that Clarke would be the answer, it was more that I wanted him to portray his plan perspective for a better America to all of us. I have to admit that I am independent, and, have always wished we could develop a better system to be more inclusive of what could be considered outside of the "two dimensional" lines of the current parties in control. I have generally "swung" to the Democrats. In my state of Vermont, we have a Democratic Senator up for re-election in Leahy(D), who should win without any conflict. Then there is Representative Bernie Sanders (I), imported from downstate, metropolitan New York. He should also win. Then, of course, we have Senator James Jeffords(I), who the die hard Republicans of this state view as a "turncoat". Personally, I am very proud of all three of my state's three Congressional representatives. I may not agree with them always, but, feel that I generally agree with the majority of their actions as my representatives.

NOW! Back to the to the Presidential aspect of the thread. I had originally donated to a "pre-announcement" fund raising event of Clarke last year. I still really thought of myself in the "mindset" of ABB, and, wasn't quite satisfied with the alternatives of REALLY beating Bush.

By the time that the Vermont Primaries arrived, I voted for Kerry. From that time until the past several months I had felt that Kerry would STILL be better than Bush (still sounds like ABB). But, since Senator Kerry has allowed himself to become more visible to the American people and myself, I really can feel that my vote for Kerry will be a vote for the right candidate that possesses the intellect, experience, the leadership skills, and, ethics for me to wholeheartedly support John Kerry as the correct choice for President.

GO JOHN KERRY AND JOHN EDWARDS ON November 2, 2004

Didn't start out that way -- I was one of those working to get Dean as our candidate, but now that I've learned about Kerry and understand about his reasoning on the Iraq resolution, I am convinced that he could be one of our greatest presidents, if we can get him elected.

95. I was, at first , ABB. But I have since listened to John Kerry
and am not only for him, but enthusiastic about him. He has a plan for solving the huge problems in this country, and has explained it, simply and clearly. I first became enthusiastic about Kerry, after listening to a speech he gave, on C-Span, to the VFW. The debates sealed it for me. This man is the only hope that we have for saving the USA, as we know it.

100. Enthusiastically for Kerry.
I was going to be an ABB voter anyway but Kerry's made it alot easier for me to do more than hold my nose and pull the lever.

I've been sort of following him since the Iran Contra days and have always hoped he'd run. I'll admit to considerable doubt during the primaries and an infatuation with Howard Dean but I'm on board now.

Kerry has the potential to be the best president in my lifetime.

donating money and making phone-calls to help get Kerry elected because he is running against Bush. I like him but this war needs to end - I am sick of this country being responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people.

I want our troops home now and peace negotiations to start with I/P when he takes office.

104. FOR Kerry
He's earned my support. I have always felt from the early days of the primaries, that he would make the best president. It was just a hunch. I thought he possessed the experience in different areas of government that are crucial in handling such a chaotic and difficult world, which is largely due to Bush's own disasterous policies.

He did disappoint me greatly with his vote for the resolution, which is partly the reason why I was not a big supporter. I did eventually hear of his interview with Eric Alterman (who seems to have had a similar view as mine), when Kerry went up to him and told him, that "if you believe I would have led this nation into this war, then don't vote for me". I believe Kerry would NOT have.

I trust his judgement overall. I still have my disagreements with him but that's to be expected. He's not the perfect candidate, but I haven't found the perfect candidate. I liked certain aspects of each candidate in the primaries, but I somehow doubt the others could have handled the debates quite like he did. It was an amazing job.

I truly believe he would make a great president if he takes office. I can only hope in two weeks from now we can address him as "President Elect John Kerry".

That said, it will be wonderful to have an engaged leader in the US who is capable of working with the rest of the world. I was starting to lean toward Dean, but always knew Kerry was a good candidate. Skull and Bones win either way whatever that means.

Bring the troops home and engage with the world in a progressive agenda! Maybe Dean or Clark or some of the other good dem candidates can be a part of the new administration.

I'd REALLY like to vote for a democrat on Nov. 2, but I can't vote for John Kerry. IMO he's endorsed too much of the Bush agenda (Iraq, WOT, Iraq, PATRIOT Act, Iraq, corporatism, and did I mention IRAQ?). Of course I'll vote against Bush, but I'll do it by helping to build the Green alternative into a viable liberal opposition party. One with the courage to speak out against the crimes committed in our names in Iraq.
