Fred Phelps is coming to St. Clair, Michigan!
The local high school is showing the enormous juevos it takes to put on "The Laramie Project" this weekend at the East China Performing Arts Center and that miserable rat bastard Phelps is going to show up in MY TOWN to spread his bile and shit.

I'm trying to get some response from the party locally but they are a little lethargic. I'm also calling local churches, but no one is calling back yet. I sure hope I'm not pissing in the wind, although in AMERIKA these days, that is a distinct possibility.

Stay tuned...

1. Phelps has also embraced white supremacy
One fun thing to do is merge with a bunch of Phelps supporters, let them wave their signs and chant for a moment, and then blurt out "WHITE POWER!"

Of course, I can't recommend that you actually do this yourself...

Students at the high school where I work that are in the Gay Straight Alliance were talking about possibly showing The Laramie Project at our school at a movie night ... if it's a play or movie there, open to anyone, can you post or message me with info about it, so I can let the group know about it? (we're in Warren)

P.S. I grew up in St. Clair in the 60's. My, my, things have changed. Good luck. Phelps is a nasty one. Whatever you do, do it legally.

16. Protesting Phelps...
The best protest I've seen against Phelps and his ilk was here in San Francisco. The anti-Phelps protesters remained calm and peaceful, their signs displayed loving scripture and people prayed. Phelps protesters looked like raving maniacs in comparison and they became more angry when they got no reaction.

Ultra right-wing evangelical Catholic who lives in St. Clair.

Extremely anti-gay and once, while visiting and watching a boxing match with my step-dad, referred to one of the boxers as a "nigger".

:grr: :grr:

It was the most offensive thing ever uttered in my house, especially he said it out of hate than merely to ridicule someone. (Both are disgusting, but the latter's far scarier.)

He's not very welcomed anymore.

9. He'll be showing his ass in front of his own priest.
Rev. Cook told me that the parish priest was an active member of the Council of Churches, and would help.

13. If you'd like to keep him
and his bunch of soon-to-be inbred congregation/family, please feel free.

I'm in Kansas and am I embarassed that he is from this state.

The only good thing I've been able to associate with him and his cadre is that the cops around here don't want to hassle with him. As a result the free speech zones are harder to enforce around here. At the opening of the Dole Center in Lawrence last year protesters were allowed to walk around freely while the Phelps' crew protested nearby. I don't know why they are afraid of him. They should declare him incompetent and force him to undergo therapy. They should then de-program the rest of the yahoos.

18. He'll have a small problem here.
The Performing Arts Center is located ENTIRELY on the grounds of the East China School District Administrative Center. I don't think that they have to allow them on the grounds, and the local police chief is Episcopal just like Matt was.

This could be interesting, and I hate interesting.

19. They don't care
Let's hope they get arrested. I think a few days of lock up for the Phelps Phamily would be good for them. In a good way. I don't know what that would be but I think it would be good for them.

If nothing else then maybe some department would begin to worry about the mental health of the children they schelp around with them.

Clicked a link, and apparently, Salt Lake City has 6 gay friendly churhces.

I didn't know Utah had enough non-bigots to fill 6 whole churches.

this site has a great, if very long, bio of Phelps and his entire twisted clan. Read it and almost any other family seems like the Waltons or Cunninghams!

22. Here's a thought...
infiltrate the Phelps camp :puke: and convince them that there are simply tons of fags, fag enablers, fag churches (sic), etc. right across the border in Canada.

Then sit back, pop open a cold one, and watch as Phelps and his merry band are refused entry into civilised Canada as undesirable aliens...

23. UPDATE on PHELPS IN ST. CLAIR
First, the Administration of the East China School District is that any disruptive element on their property (NOT by definition PUBLIC PROPERTY, but in fact, SCHOOL GROUNDS) WILL BE ARRESTED BY THE ST. CLAIR COUNTY SHERRIF'S DEPARTMENT, OR THE MICHIGAN STATE POLICE.

Second, Blue Water Pride has organized a silent, "barrier protest." Their aim will be to take positions before the Phelps' arrival and stand as a barrier to prevent the direct interaction of Phelps et al with students or patrons of the Arts Center. This also has the approval and cooperation of the Administration, and they have assured Blue Water Pride that any loud protests by the Phelps' on private property will be treated as "Disturbing the Peace," and that complaint will be sworn.

Third, the Michigan Democratic Party will not only participate (they are encouraging candidates to help), they will be providing "angels" to escort/assure the patrons may attend the play in peace. (I raise my hand. I'll be an "angel")

May I say at this time that I am PROUD to know Scott Frazer of Blue Water Pride, a person of commitment and honor.

27. Way to go, Tyler!
I so want to see this vicious sack of excrement rotting somewhere deep underground.

Until then, I'll settle for the truly Christian actions of you and the others in your community.

Right of center. Posts WAY too many "articles" (if they may be called such) by Reagan/Malkin/et al. They publish mine once in a great while.

28. Great News! Phelps visits are fantastic catalysts for communtiy solidarity
It's like having the KKK or the Nazis show up -- at first you might think of it as an eyesore or at least an inconvenience, but when the final tally comes up, you'll find that LOTS of people will show to support and defend whatever Phelps comes to attack. You will feel better about your neighbors when this is over.

29. Call the Triangle Foundation in Ferndale
Try a google search, it should pop up. It's a gay rights organization, and they may want to participate.

I agree that it takes a lot of guts to do that play in a rural high school. I doubt it would go over very well in Warren, where I live. I'd come protest, but I'm going to be out of town this weekend.

Fred Phelps' organization came to Ferndale a few years ago, when there was a gay rights amendment on the ballot. The youth groups from the methodist church and St. James' catholic church did a "sidewalk washing" after they left.
