A Hypothetical Question... |

Totally fictional... set way in in the future...
If the president-elect dies before inauguration day, would the vice-president-elect become the president-elect... and then be inaugurated as president on inauguration day?
Or would he be inaugurated as VICE-president (since that's what he was elected to be)... then in the absence of having a president, he would THEN be inaugurated as the president?
Or is there some other mechanism in place?

becomes the President elect, per the 20th amendment to the Constitution.
Section 3. If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President.
