CBS Fallen Soldiers segments |

I dread them but I always watch them as some small way to say thank you to these kids. One yesterday was unbearable, more unbearable than usual.
A kid died, named Dustin, who had 'had a hard life'. He was so proud of his high school diploma, apparently it was hard won and dearly, dearly loved, that he took it with him to Iraq. He was killed by friendly fire.

1. I have a hard time watching them, too. |

I missed the one yesterday, because I was gone.
I nearly bawled during one of the earlier ones. I was watching it with my 20 year old daughter.
The kid who died was 20. He had a wife and baby. You know he was in the military so he could make a better life for his young family. Such a waste.

2. Last Friday on Newshour they did their Fallen tribute |
|
as usual but what i noticed this time was that out of the 12 they showed, the last 5 were teenagers. It was so goddamn sad, and i was so angry i almost couldn't control myself.

3. then tonight, CBS showed military families financial woes, including |
|
going to food banks. There was a kid coming in, tatooes on his arm and his hat in hand and you could see his anguish at being there but he has to support his family. They say a lowly private can make as little as 1600 a month. THey followed this story with a pork barrel story. Just know golfers get tax cuts.
I think Dan Rather is doing what he can. He's the editor of the news.
