Cancel Crossfire?
I'm curious how many DU'ers wouldn't care less if CNN yanked Crossfire off the air tomorrow.

While I understand Jon Stewart's point and think he's mostly hilarious, I for one feel Crossfire is generally a pretty good current events forum...especially when you compare it to its atrocious counterpart on Fox.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I just believe it's better than nothing...

2. I have a problem with a show
when I have to read the transcripts to see what was said-if you have to yell and scream over everyone else to get your point across, do you think a lot of your point was missed by your target audience? Just as an example, I used to watch PTI on ESPN just to watch Tony Kornheiser and Mike Wilbon yell at each other-they were friends and it was fun to watch them rip each other-problem is, right after the show was over, I couldn't remember what each one's arguments were.

4. I don't have cable, but...
I have watched 'Crossfire' a couple of times and all that confrontation made me uncomfortable and queasy. For some reason, I have never been able to watch shows like that without turning the channel back and forth when 'discussion' gets really heated. I don't like it.

5. I watch Crossfire every day
....but it's harder and harder to stay interested. The only segment I would miss is the Crossfire Political alert.

I really like Paul Begala and would like to see him get his own show.

6. It contributes to the corruption
of our political process. I used to watch it, but could no longer stand it. They actually say nothing of value. The right spews the neo-con talking points and the left repeats the democrat's talking points. No substance. When you hear people explaining why they are voting to give GWB a "Do-Over" they in turn repeat the talking points. Blah, Blah, Blah. Kinda like the Manchurian Candidate, now that I think about it. Nothing would be less harmful, I believe.

7. Don't lament it's disappearance.
One: it's not going anywhere.

Two: If you are a fan of Begala and Carville as I am, fear not, they would still be on TV, possibly in a better forum. I think Begala is a good voice for us and he usually slaughters Novak and Carlson.

I will say this, both sides on the show do at least challenge the hypocrisy in the arguments of people on their show at times...who else besides Olberman and Stewart is doing that?

11. I've been addicted to Crossfire for years. It does serve a purpose..
It's one of the very few forums where the point of view of Democrats is represented. I think Stewart was wrong to paint the show with a broad brush. Just because Tucker and Novak are lying hacks, he need not apply that same brush to Begala and Carville. He might as well join the ranks of Pat Caddell if he's going to start doing that.

12. I watched it once.
Just recently, when my son sent me a link asking me to watch Jon Stewart. I enjoyed Jon Stewart. I don't enjoy watching people squabble on tv. I also don't appreciate setting up a public forum to "debate" the issues that lends credibility to political manipulation of truth. I don't like that these shows are dependent on sponsors to be viable; sponsors with big $$ and big agendas. And I think that they should have to provide independent, non-partisan, non-corporate sources for everything that they spout as fact.

As far as "canceling," I just choose to vote with my remote and my satellite package. I don't get any network channels. I choose not to ever watch any tv news or information show, for any reason, other than CSpan. When the airwaves are wrested from corporate control, and the FCC reinstates and beefs up the "fairness" doctrine, I'll reconsider. Meanwhile, I can get more news, opinion, and discussion than I have time for on my computer.

with the "NeoCon Junta?" I can't remember the last
time I've heard him agree with anyone from the right
on the show. Begala, yes, James, no.

16. I want it improved, not canceled
I understand exactly where Jon was coming from - it has turned into a bit of a freak show with no real analysis of the problems they should be discussing. The perception is the far left vs the far right with no middle ground. It gets tiring. Plus I think they could use better guests than the usual Bush whores they have on. How about a few moderates for a change?

18. Don't you understand...
Crossfire, Hardball, Capital Report, Capital Gang, Hannity & Colmes,etc... nothing more than verbal mud -wrestling. What Jon Stewart did, in effect, was shine the spotlight on these scream fests, diminish them, and render them useless. G-d bless Jon Stewart.

22. Don't cancel it -- CLEAN IT UP!
Stewart was right; it SHOULD be a debate show, but the politicos just go there to repeat their CANNED talking points. We now judge it by how well they actually "stay on message." Maybe if it was like a game show? With points for clearest explanations? That might be entertaining AND informative!

24. Crossfire has always been worthless
Back when I was in grad school in the early 90's my parents and I would watch it every evening while cooking dinner. That's when it was Pat Buchanan for the R's and the the grey haired guy with glasses for the D's.

Even then it was the political equivalent of professional wrestling. Everyone talking over the others, no topic discussed for more than 5-7 minutes, a "did not, did so" level of dialog, etc.

Entertaining to watch in a voyeuristic sense but worthless in terms of adding anything to the political spectrum.

As an hour show it was good - but that was also before they starting really whoring for this administration. Novack should be fired or in jail, Tucker should be a manager at Walmart.

36. Begala and Carville regularly beat up on Tucker and Novak.
That show is known for giving a good beating to the Repubs. Novak, Carlson and the Reps who appear cannot even come close to competing with Begala.

There are many, many shows that should be canceled before Crossfire.
