HUGE!!! Pat Robertson "warned" Bush about the Iraqi invasion???
What a hypocrite. He supported Bush every step of the way and now because so many of our children are being killed and the invasion and occupation is sapping our resources, our time, and splitting the country in ways worse than Viet Nam, he decides to distance himself from Bush's decision to invade Iraq? Robertson was all over his TV station talking about how wonderful, strong, courageous, and decisive Bush was about Iraq. What a turd! If I were an evangelical right now I would be canceling all my giving to Pat and I might just sit home come election day. I hope they keep airing Pat's comments. In Pats statement, "self-assured" = stubborn and recalcitrant.

10. It was on CNN in an interview with Paula Zahn.
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 10:49 AM by JohnyCanuck
I saw it and it was quite funny in a way. Have to give Paula kudos for doing her job for once. She was really pressing Pat "Diamond Mines" Robertson about the issue of could you be a Christian and not vote for Bush. Of course Pat would not come out and say that directly, but he beat all around the "Bush" (pun intended) 10 ways to Sunday about how Dubya was a "Godly" and prayerful man who was blessed by God because of his faith and his reliance on the Almighty to guide his steps and so on and so forth to the point you could barf.

Then Paula pressed him on the issue of did Dubya make mistakes and if so why would he never admit to them. To her Credit Paula kept the pressure up on this point and finally Pat said that he had been leery about the Iraq war from the getgo because God warned him that it would be a disaster (I can't remember his exact words but I am pretty sure he did say disaster) and he had tried to warn Dubya about the dangers of invading Iraq, but his warning was totally ignored and brushed off by the Godly one. Fundie brains watching all over America must have been going, "Does not compute. Does not compute."

Maybe there'll be a transcript on CNN. There was also another thread about this in GD (I think) yesterday. Might be worthwhile searching for it to see if they posted a link to a transcript in that earlier thread.

Edited to add. The Canadia fundamentalist relgious cable channel, 100 Huntly St. and its head honcho Pastor David Mainse was also heavily pushing for the Iraq war prior to the invasion, and I remember Mainse even made a trip to Washington (much publicised on their channel) for an audience with Dubya The Godly in order to lend his moral support to Dubya's efforts to start an unjustified and illegal war. Looks like the heavenly switch board got its lines crossed on that one all right.

11. Here's the story on CNN (Quotes Pat's warning)
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/10/19/robertson.bush.iraq/index.html

And I warned him about this war. I had deep misgivings about this war, deep misgivings. And I was trying to say, 'Mr. President, you had better prepare the American people for casualties.' "

Robertson said the president then told him, "Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties."

Robertson, the televangelist who sought the Republican presidential nomination in 1988, said he wishes Bush would admit to mistakes made.

"I mean, the Lord told me it was going to be A, a disaster, and B, messy," Robertson said. "I warned him about casualties."

Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 09:19 AM by skylarmae
says 'he has blessings From heaven' regarding the election.
Maybe he's just covering his ass with his followers saying, 'I tried to tell him' so 'there's nothing wrong with me'; but he has also stated that the Lord God himself, told Robertson that georgie porgie would be reselected! Whats he going to say when John reclaims our Country 'For the People'.

5. This also posted in LBN, I didn't see it earlier but my take is different
the hypocrisy of RW funddies is astounding!! And Pat just as much as says "although Bush was wrong, I still stick by him."

You mean God told Pat there would lots of casualties and told Bush there wouldn't be any casualties? What are these men doing to God's reputation?

7. Huge? please...
What is Pat Robertson other than a religious zealot? How much value could his 'advice' on war possiby be worth, whether it's in our favor or not.

14. Was it gold mines or diamond mines?

I heard he was into diamond mines in Africa.

Another one of Robertson's more notorious business deals is the recently exposed diamond mine case. In this ingenious venture, Robertson saw an opportunity in the country formerly named Zaire (now the Congo) for diamond mines. The former Zaire is a country rich in natural resources, including diamonds, but these resources were thus far being plundered by its (former) dictator, the brutal Mobuto Sese Seko. Mobuto (who recently died of cancer) was one of the world's richest men, while his people lived in grinding poverty. It was often noted that he could have cured all of his country's ills by writing a personal check. Mobuto had been trying to come to the US to try to improve relations, but the State Department refused to grant him a visa, due to his lengthy human rights violations (see the Pat's Dictator Friends page for more info). In all of this, the clever Pat Robertson saw an opportunity. The two became close associates, and Mobuto allowed Pat to open diamond mines in Zaire, under the name of the African Development Company, while Pat tried to persuade the State Department to allow Mobuto entry into the US. Ultimately, it was found out that Pat had been using CBN money and equipment to aid his diamond mining operation in Zaire (see the News page for more details). A good deal for Pat, seeing as he employed people in Zaire for ridiculously low wages, and managed to use CBN's infrastructure to cut costs even more.

Ultimately, one is struck by the constant use of non-profit, donor money used to fund Pat's schemes, and the total lack of ethics that this man has. Anyone thinking about sending money to CBN to "promote the gospel" should definitely take note; chances are that your money will end up being used to increase the fortune of one Marion "Pat" Robertson instead. For even more information on Pat's business practices, I encourage you to check out Rob Boston's book entitled "The Most Dangerous Man in America? Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition," from which some of my information comes.

15. It was both, you're right.
Terrorist diamonds need a terrorist gold setting. Thrifty businessman Pat is all over the map in Africa, isn't he?

Pat Robertson and His Business Buddies

This much is known, however, based primarily on information obtained from Freedom Gold Limited. Pat Robertson did learn about the gold mining investment opportunity from a visiting Liberian delegation. Robertson did subsequently create the for-profit Freedom Gold Limited in the Cayman Islands in December 1998 in which he was listed as the president and the company's sole director. He did conclude a mining agreement signed personally by him, Charles Taylor and key members of Taylor's cabinet on May 18, 1999. And the deal does give the Taylor regime a cut of the action.

16. What's important is that apparently * thought there'd be NO casualties.
How could he possibly have thought such a thing? Kerry ought to pick up on that. No casualties in a war? How incompetent IS that for a Commander in Chief to think THAT?
