WalMart refuses to sell Jon Stewart's book
Store chain yanks 'Daily Show' host best-seller over nude pix

BY PAUL D. COLFORD
DAILY NEWS BUSINESS WRITER
Jon's too hot for Wal-Mart --

Nine nudes are a no-go at Wal-Mart.
The giant store chain won't stock Jon Stewart's big best-seller, "America (The Book)," because one page shows nine naked bodies - with the heads of the Supreme Court justices pasted on them.

In the pseudo civics textbook, readers are asked to restore the judges' dignity by matching the nine with their black robes on the opposite page.

"America," written by Stewart and his "Daily Show" colleagues, will mark its third week Sunday at No.1 on The New York Times best-seller list.

Though not on Wal-Mart's store shelves, "America" was still being offered yesterday on Walmart.com - at 45% off the $24.95 list price.

2. Music CDs with the lyrics blanked out?
"In recent years Wal-Mart has refused to sell magazines with racy covers and CDs with sexually explicit lyrics. Some CDs have been available at Wal-Mart in edited editions - with the hot lyrics removed."

That's art they are tampering with!

33. That's my next big cause
after we fix war, poverty, AIDS, McDonalds, Walmart...
Legalizing public nudity. Or at least toplessness for women.

I'm only half-kidding. We have a huge art fair where i live that draws about 100,000 people and i've always wanted to walk around topless with my chest painted like an american flag and "How Free Are We?" painted on my belly. Shoulda done it when I was 20 years old. oh well.

i even convinced my conservative dad that if i got arrested and went to court i would win and wome could go topless across our fair nation. btw, his conservative-ness has mellowed with age and he can't stand bush.

10. No surprise
something my sister told me yesterday:

She went to buy Farinheit 9/11 and the Walmart employee told her - um, you don't want to buy that one - and my sister says, yes I do, this is the one that was out at the theaters and this is the one my husband wants to see. He said well, if you're going to buy that, than I must insist that you buy the movie that counters it - Farenhype 9/11 - (which my sister said was $9.00). He said "it is more truthful and cost less and all you're going to see is lies and you really need to counter that with the truth.

My sister said "I hope you won't be offended if I don't take the political leanings of a Walmart employee" and I will in fact buy just the one movie I came in for. Thought that was a pretty good slapdown.

15. Walmart won't develop your film with nude photos

Walmart also won't develop your film if they find any nude photos in your roll. They'll give you all the photos without nudity and keep the rest.

SCREW WALMART! I get enough censorship in this country as it is, I don't need a convenience store telling me what I can and can't buy, or take photos of.

Fortunately, I don't ever have to shop there.

25. LOL
I used to work in a Wal Mart film processing center (the large-scale place, not the one-hour developing). They developed film for walmarts in several states.

Actually...we used to have to pull rolls that had naked pics in them...but after a while it was too much so they said to just let them go.

I have to say...i saw some pretty messed up stuff working there. We used to stop the huge machines just to get a glimps of some pictures...a lot of times, it was an unfortunate choice.

19. Do they sell WOMEN'S MAGAZINES?
There's enough nudity and sex in one issue of Cosmo or Redbook to give even Dick "Dick" Cheney wood. Hypocrisy knows no bounds with these people.
