7. Yes, a lot of Pizza makers are in the Right
Papa John's supports Sinclair Broadcasting, even though they are planning to smear Kerry.

13. No, don't order from them again
Their reply to me re: Sinclair was "Thanks for the comments and have a nice day. Kathy Whitt CSR" Later, I heard from many DU'ers that they have a long history of RWing. Too many competitors out there in pizza land to support a RW company.

15. Oh, I think I'll give them a call today.
Since they are right around the corner from us, they are the place we usually order pizza from in a pinch. Most of the time we either make pizza from scratch or we make a frozen one (saves money). I guess we'll be saving a lot more money from now on.

26. The Spokeshead for Papa John's always creeped me out.
He looks like an Osmond.

And the actors posing as employees in the commercials always seemed like Stepford Wives.

9. This is awsome
I think we glimpsed our power as a massive voice with some of Sinclair's gestures, I think it's time we start throwing our weight around some more. Aside from the obvious suspects (Coors, National Review, Diebold), there were some genuine surprises (for me anyways), such as Viacom, UPS & Chase Manhattan. What is the degree of their "right-wing-iness" based on? Donations, public comments by excecutives, past actions?

11. Most of this came from PFAW
In the 'Right Wing Organizations'

A huge chunk of these are supporters of the Cato Institute.

In the case of Dominoes Pizza, its founder has asscoiations with the Right.

I think it is the little groups you never hear about that are probably the most Right-Wing.

12. Add Hallmark, Recycled Greetings, & American Greetings
There are other companies to buy from.

These are the ones you will most likely find in huge chains - grocery, drug stores & Walmart.

Hallmark - to Republicans - $236,000 (InterArt & Dayspring are also owned by Hallmark)

Recycled gives 100% to Republicans - $50,00

American Greeting gave a lot more to RNC in 2000 ($100,000) than in 2004 ($23,000) - so maybe there is hope for them - or maybe greeting cards aren't selling so well.

----

Blue Mtn. gave $275,000 (100%) to Dems.

18. Islands are seeming attractive to me too....however
except with the case of oil companies - an oil company is an oil company - and it seems all a person could do is use less - buy efficient, etc...

There are many small companies people could subsitute for a lot of things.

Local restaurants. (I LOVE the pizza from our locally owned pizza places).

Find shops that sell stuff by small independant companies instead of huge chains.

If enough people did it - it would be easier for people to make a living having their little company instead of working for the monsters.

:)

21. How did you manage to miss
NewsCorp?

I mean, FOX news? hello?

That said, it would be hard to boycott Viacom and NewsCorp completely because politically liberal shows do show up on their channels, usually as comedies (Daily Show, Simpsons, Futurama).

22. McDonalds?
Joan Kroc, rest her soul, gave a fortune to organizations working with kids in the inner city. I have no idea who controls the company now (other that its Board) nor how one would determine that Mcdonalds is right-wing.

27. Where will y'all buy gas?
Amoco is now BP Amoco, so they're out. Citgo isn't on the list, but probably is not available everywhere.

All mom & pop stations ultimatly get their product from big oil, so even when you try targeting them, it won't work.

Hybrid cars, I'm telling you. They're coming - just how long will it take before they make up the majority of the cars on the highway? Ten, twenty years?

American Express, for example, gives to Human Rights Campaign. What do you think about companies that give to both?

31. Depends on the weighting.
50/50, for instance, is the purest form of hypocrisy. Citigroup and Salomon Smith Barney give 98 % to right wing'ers. No more investments for them!!
