Message to Pro-Lifers: How do you feel about the baby after it is born?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 04:03 PM by HypnoToad
As most of you are Republican. How can you support a gigantic dichotomy? Force the baby to get care (that's called socialism, you twats) until it plops out of mommy's vagina. The moment it plops out, then it's no longer anybody's responsibility except the parents' or orphanage's or foster home's.

Be Pro-Life all the way or be Pro-Money and STFU forever. Hypocritical bastards. x(

(On edit: I am not accusing any DUer of anything. I did borrow the first 8 words from another post dealing with abortion. Nothing more; this topic is way different and tries to address the reich-wing's duplicity on the issue of life.)

(On edit 2: I did say "Most of you are Republican". I know some Dems are "Pro-Life" as defined by the Abortion issue. And I am not against "Pro-Lifers" as such. I'm angry at the republican duplicity regarding life. They want it both ways, and I didn't even say a word on the death penalty yet...)

1. You'll never get a straight answer from them
They'll just tell you "I'd be glad to adopt every single one of them if the govt stopped confiscating all my money with taxes"

5. I'm pro-choice too, though I do not like the basic idea of abortion...
It's none of my business; I've no right to tell a woman what to do. That would be fascism.

But life should be revered.

Instead, our "culture of life" squanders it, in the name of greed.

6. Me or they?
I'll happily go after the deadbeat dads as well, for they are part of the problem too. They made the kid and then don't give a damn about it afterwards. That is beyond cowardly.

Hell, since we are a money-driven and not person-driven society, the otherwise deadbeat dad should pay for the abortion. If not the child's upbringing, it's his sperm that got involved.

8. some of our liberal anti-choice friends
really are pro-life. however, i know women are capable of making their own decisions and do not need the state to set limits for them.

9. I am "pro-life."
Unfortunately, banning abortion will not make it go away--abortion and infanticide has been practiced for centuries, in many cultures.

However, I am a strong believer that progressive economic policies will make abortion LESS COMMON as more people will actually be able to AFFORD the children they are carrying.

Of course, once the baby is born, we as a society need to make sure that it is taken care of---we need to make sure that kid (and the rest of the family) has access to healthcare, food, shelter, a good education, and won't be conscripted into imperialist war.:) All that little convienent stuff that rethuglikkkans tend to ignore.

12. I'm pro-privacy, pro-medicine, pro-women
There's a variety of medical reasons for an abortion, including the mental and physical health of a family that can't deal with a child. It's a privacy issue, Roe v. Wade was a privacy issue. A woman's health decisions are private and between her and her doctor, and a God if she chooses to "consult" one. It's a pro-medical privacy issue, pro making ones own medical decisions.

15. I'm pro-life across the board
and we'd better take care of the kids--and their moms--after they're born; otherwise, we'd be nothing but pathetic, right-wing fascist hypocrites!

Expand WIC, food stamps, and Section 8 housing for poor women with infants and children under 5. Open more prenatal clinics nationwide so poor women can access the care for themselves and their babies they otherwise couldn't afford.

Set up a national adoption network, much like they have in Pennsylvania (set up by Robert Casey--a real pro-life Democrat) so working-class families can afford to adopt AMERICAN kids, where otherwise they would be priced out under private adoption agencies. Pass open adoption laws (the last two ideas for women who choose to give up their kids for adoption).

Start student housing for single moms on campus, with on-site child care while Mom is attending classes. Beef up funding for, and availabilty.

"Where will the money come from", some will ask. The answer: from the millionaires and billionaires.

I'm just scratching the surface.

16. Anecdotal evidence
Edited on Wed Oct-20-04 04:52 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
Years ago, I heard a woman who worked in a doctor's office tell about a long-time patient, who was unmarried and pregnant. This woman, a strong "pro-life" advocate, was rooting for the mother as she was determined to give birth and raise the child.

However, when the baby was born and the doctor's office employee saw it, she realized that the father must have been African-American.

Boy, did she change her tune fast. The baby got sick, and the office worker told me that she prayed that he would die, because "he had no future."

:puke:

Fortunately, God didn't listen to that particular prayer :-) and the baby is now in all likelihood an adult.

Edited for clarity
