BOARDMAN, Ohio - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) said he bagged a goose on his swing-state hunting trip Thursday, but his real target was the voters who may harbor doubts about him.

Kerry returned after a two-hour hunting trip wearing a camouflage jacket and carrying a 12-gauge shotgun, but someone else carried the bird he said he shot.

If it would have been Bush, it would have read like this:

BOARDMAN, Ohio - President George Bush (news - web sites) bagged a goose on his swing-state hunting trip Thursday.

Bush returned after a two-hour hunting trip wearing a camouflage jacket and carrying a 12-gauge shotgun, with the bird he shot.

The way the first is written, its designed to leave the reader with skepticism about what Kerry said, and emphasize the idea that he is "putting on an act" trying to be something he isn't to win votes.

I'm not denying that it was a photo-op, but I'm saying that no one would talk about the bird Bush "allegedy" shot hunting just because they weren't there with him when he did it. And he would be really offended if they did. This is how the media, either deliberately or subconsciously in this case, keeps making the case that Kerry is fake, a panderer, etc. etc.

Pretty lame, huh?

1. Well, passing it to someone else...
...is just JK's clever way of "flipping the bird" to this reporter.

2. Kerry is an expert marksman and if they want to match Bush against him
in a shooting contest, I'd sure like to watch their faces.

5. Well, not quite -- the media is not one person, but many

So, yes I will agree with you and say this: on the whole there are too many instances of this kind of thing to deny that there isn't a pattern of deliberate manipulation of news to serve certain private interests.

However, that doesn't mean that every time we notice something, that it is conscious. Whoever wrote this story could have just been a poor sap who's heard too much media himself, writing a story and not even appreciating the bias that he (or she, I don't remember the author) is writing with a lot of unexamined bias.

7. Correct, but it is so pervasive the effect is the same as if
beetle-browed KGB Agents were monitoring every written word.

The CAUSES might be different but the Totalitarian Effect is the same as if we were reading two identical stories about Hitler and Theodore Herzl (early Zionist) in Der Sturmer.

Further, the degrees of ham-fisted Nazification/Sovietization would be different degrees, as our Busheviks are much more subtle and their Public Relations Lie Machinery has progressed much more deeply than was available to Bolsheviks or Nazis).

8. Well, thank God we have websites like CNN.COM
to give us fair and balanced reporting </sarcasm>

Case in point:

CNN.COM had two stories in their list of news items. One, a story of how T. Kerry apologized to Pickles. The next story was how the awol prick (who goes by the name of chimp), told a fundamentalist how there would be no deaths in Iraq.

The story concerning the chimp & fundamentalist disappeared quickly. As of 12 Noon EDT, the story of Teresa & Pickles is still displayed.

12. All theses AP articles go through an editor who edits them and selects a
headline, from what I understand. Who is the editor or who are the editors for the AP political articles? I would like to know.
