7. Boies reminds me what a crushing body blow it was to all of us |
|
when he failed Gore.
I don't want to see him as a top dog for our side in the post-election litigious mess that might arise.
We need someone like Eliott Spitzer (sp) as our spokesman - so we draw strength and confidence from him.
Let Boies work behind the scenes - he is not a figure of strength or certainty for our side.

12. In defense of Boies -- |
|
I've read that he wasn't as free working with a political client, Gore, as with his usual clients, for whom he has a very tough, take-no-prisoners reputation. Gore, and other political operatives involved, weighed legal decisions with how they would play in the press, and politically, in mind. This limits the chances for pursuing the best legal strategy.
Also, both Boies and Larry Tribe were told at practically the last possible moment that Gore had made the decision that Boies would argue Bush v Gore before the Supreme Court instead of Tribe, who was fully prepared for the argument. Boies is a brilliant lawyer, but had only hours to prepare, was not working in his area of expertise, and didn't have experience in arguing before the SC, as Tribe did.
In any case, the stolen election was a foregone conclusion, and the Supreme Court's complicity assured.

14. True, there was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes. |

Granted it was a huge new debacle to deal with... and emotions around it still percolate around the players.

they failed to even mention the fact that tens of thousands -- possibly hundreds of thousands of African-American voters were disenfranchied. It was as if they were afraid to use the race card, when the decision to eliminate those voters was BECAUSE of their race.

the strategizing. It sounds like more a political decision than a legal one, but I could be wrong.

17. Important thing he said: had I had Scalia's 2 sons working for me, |
|
it wouldn't have changed his decision. One thing you all have to remember: Jesus wouldn't have done better in that court. As lawyers go, Boies was the best.

19. Boies is extraordinary -- a great lawyer, whose dyslexia... |
|
has actually, I believe, contributed to his success by fostering his legendary memory, contributing to his ability to "think outside the box," and forcing him to learn to communicate complex legal issues in simple, understandable terms.
