Poll: College students moving toward Kerry |
|
ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- College students say they are much more interested in politics this year, more likely to identify with a party and more likely to vote, a new Harvard University study shows.
And it appears a majority of those responding to the survey intend to vote for Sen. John Kerry.
The Harvard University Institute of Politics surveyed students across the country in October.
The institute began tracking students' political leanings in 2000. Since then, there have been some remarkable changes.
But first, the findings:
The 10-point lead that Kerry held over President Bush in a March survey has grown to 13 percent.
<snip>
While Bush's support among students has remained consistent, many undecided voters have moved into the Kerry camp.
In swing states, Kerry's lead is even higher, about 16 percent. Swing-state students also are saying they are more likely to vote than students in non-swing states.
Women are far more likely to support Kerry. The race is about even among males.
Students are divided in the way they rank the candidates' personal attributes. Bush, for example, scores higher on "takes a clear stand on issues." Kerry ranks higher on "understands the problems of people like you."
More students believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. And support for the war is slipping.

2. My daughter told me................. |
|
that she thinks Louisiana might even be in play for the Dems this year. The students are allowed to register for voting on Campus (not absentee in their home state) and she said there are a hell of a lot of them just at Tulane University. Multiply that by the number of Colleges and Universities in Lousiana and you've got one hell of a voting block there. Thos would be SOOOOO sweet. Bush getting knocked off in his "safe" states by students. Get out the vote students, this is your chance to make a difference!!

3. "college students moving towards Kerry"...well I'll say this |
|
if all they are doing is moving towards Kerry I suggest a law be submitted to draft everyone of these chest beaters so the many who were duped and pressured to reenlist could come home and live the rest of their life with their family.
What is with this young generation? It's as if they are totally sheltered from reality. Let them sign the fuck up now or forever keep quiet on this war!

4. I am the President of my College Dems... |
|
And, when we had our Dems/GOP debate on Iraq Tuesday, I had had it with the Pres of the Repukes thumping his chest for the war.
I looked at him and said "my 19 year old friend was killed over there because he was forced to enlist to pay for his tuition. How old are you?"
"20."
"Why the hell don't you go fight it then, if it's such a "worthy" war and it's so "vital" to American interests and the war on terror? Why are you sitting here with us and not out defending this country and fighting for what you believe in?"
"I have asthma, I can't enlist."
I rest my case (yes, everyone laughed at him)

11. Thanks for standing up |
|
Notice how his reply was similar to shrub's. That is the underlying answer from all of these coward bastards, they always have an excuse why they can't participate but have zero problem sending others. They saddest fact is as everyone was laughing at him he was probably willing to stick to his programmed answer just like every other freeper out there.

Political activism on my small PA campus was up even last year before we knew who the nominee officially was.
I know this is the first presidential election I am voting in, and I'm certainly not "only" voting because of a draft.
Overall, I'm disappointed EVERY college-age American isn't voting, but you have to give us some credit. At least many of us know that jobs, foreign policy... hell Social Security (not exactly a huge hot topic for college kids) are reasons to vote (and vote for Kerry).
