*** Help to get F9/11 aired on Public Access!!! ***
Please contact your local Public Access channel to get F9/11 aired between now and the election.

If you are able to make the arrangements, please promote it as well by calling the local paper in advance of the airing and by calling into your local talk shows. Create a local buzz to attract viewership.

ARIZONA DAILY STAR

A Tucson woman has succeeded where director Michael Moore failed: She is making sure the anti-Bush documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" gets on television before the Nov. 2 election. Radio producer Elaine Higginbotham has Moore's permission to air the controversial film on local public-access television. The broadcast means that an estimated 150,000 local cable subscribers could be among a select few able to view the film without having to rent the DVD.

...

Higginbotham asked Moore if she could air "Fahrenheit 9/11" when he visited Tucson on Oct. 11 as part of a national speaking tour. His response to her request, she said, was unequivocal and captured on tape.

"Yes, of course," he said. "Burn, baby, burn. Please do that … and please try to get as many people as possible to see it before the election."

Moore could not be reached for comment, but Behrend said Higginbotham signed a release indicating she has permission to air the film.

...

Spokesmen for both companies say they do not exercise any "editorial control" over cable access programming. The same holds true for the city and Access Tucson. "It really is a public forum and the only restriction really is that the programs be noncommercial," Behrend said.

(please forgive the cross post)

3. Question: How is this different from what Sinclair is doing?
I realize Sinclair is forcing affiliates to air its bullshit and this airing would be voluntary, but is airing F-9/11 legal according to title 11 of Federal Election Law?

4. These are public airwaves...
... open for the public to do whatever they want with it.

I haven't been provided a monopoly license to use the airwaves for profitability like Sinclair.

6. I'm with Ladyhawk on this.
I LOVED F9/11, but this is, to me, just what Sinclair is doing.

9. I agree with you guys.
Even though Sinclair turns a profit, the objection was that they were using public airwaves.

5. Cable is not broadcast airwaves
Plus, there is already some law that enforces cable networks to make a channel (or a time) available to anyone who wants to broadcast any thing for any reason.

11. My public access channel runs political shows all the time
Um..that's kind of what public access channels are for (other than showing some budding surrealist's new video production).

WYOU Madison has run about the whole series of 'Un...' documentaries: Unprecedented, Uncovered, etc...

Tonight, after the Sinclair show is over, they'll be running "Hijacking Catastrophe".

10. Don't try to get any Dem Party involvment...
There is a big seperation between individuals, Michael Moore F911 and the Dem party, as there should be.

But definately try to make it happen on your own. Public Access is just that, its your channel, and you have a right to broadcast on it. If MM gives permission then see if you can show the movie.

Best of luck!

12. Bummer! Can't get it on public access here...:(
In my area, all they ask is that you participate in an orientation to the station and it's equipment PRIOR to showing something. The Orientations are only held on a certain Wed. each month. There isn't one available prior to the election...

Oh well...I gave it a shot.
