Catholic Leaders At Odds Over Gay Marriage Amendments
Washington) Not all Roman Catholic bishops are in lockstep with the Vatican in supporting state constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage.

The Catholic Diocese of Utah has announced it will oppose the amendment which will go to voters on Nov 2.

Bishop George Niederauer in a statement said the proposed amendment is unnecessary. Niederauer said that Utah law already prohibits such marriages.

He joins 17 other clergy members from a wide number of religions in opposing the proposed amendment.
