George F. Will stole Jimmy Carter's debate briefing book and gave
it to Reagan. Reagan would only agree to one debate right before the election, so this would be a major coup for him.

Just heard it tonight on NPR's "Fresh Air" with Terri Gross.
She was interviewing the former pres. Don't think there's a link yet.

I always knew George Will was a testosterone-challenged slimebag, but now I have another reason why. Self righteous POS . . .

And Reagan, what a cheater, among everything else . . .

pompous bastard. where is he defending his mighty conservativism? He should know more than anyone * isnt a conservative. that makes will a hypocrite, or a money grubber, but which is worse?

4. Really, I've been a news junkie for quite awhile but I'd never heard
it before . . . although I was still in high school when Carter lost.

5. He didn't just give the briefing book to the Reagan team
He personally coached Reagan in preparation for the debate. Afterward, he made his usual TV rounds and praised Ronnie for his stellar performance.

7. Carter told Terry Gross about that on NPR yesterday.
The book was stolen from Carter's office in the White House by someone who gave it to George Will.

10. contrast this with what happened to Al Gore ...
Someone sent a copy of Bush's debate prep tape to the staffer who was portraying Bush in Gore's debate practice sessions. The guy recused himself to avoid any appearance of wrongdoing -- and as I recall, the GOP screamed about Gore's people planning some kind of dirty trick.
