There will be a special place in hell for Maria Hassan's kidnappers
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 12:18 PM by rockydem
if they kill her. She's been in Iraq for many, many years. She's married to an Iraqi man. I hope to god she's not in the same hands of those who killed the three contractors.

"Hassan - an Irish-British-Iraqi national who has been doing humanitarian work in Iraq for 30 years, including distributing medicine and food - appeared haggard, her eyes baggy as she stood alone in front of a bare wall."

1. Sickening.
The manner of beheading is so brutal and painful. It must be painful.

2. I think she will be all right
Don't ask me why. We've seen no masked men brandishing weapons or jihad banners. My hunch is that they're masking it in political rhetoric, but might just be criminals wanting money.

Hope so, anyway.

8. Check Your Facts
First off there was only 2 female POWs in Desert Storm, at least from the US.

And only one reported that she was subjected to "sexual indecencies"
by her captors, but said nothing about the sexual assault in public for more then a year.

And of the female POWs this time around there has been no report from either Shoshona Johnson or Jessica Lynch of any sexual assault taking place.

Most of the sexual assaults against US female military personnel in the current operation have been by US male military personnel.

So I would venture to guess that male military personnel are far more likely to commit acts of sexual assault, then the kidnappers.

And I don't recall the two Italian women who were kidnapped, making any statements about their captors trying to sexually assault them either.

5. God, I well up in tears just reading about her situation...
This is wrenching, absolutely wrenching. I have so few remaining words to express how this makes me feel. If there is a God, surely she deserves to be spared. Maria Hassan, I ache for you. If you die, a large part of me and all my idealism will die with you.

RIP all the victims of this terrorist rage that have gone before you. Please let this end for our soldiers, for all the NGO workers and others engaged in the Iraqi struggle, and especially for all for those innocent Iraqis who have suffered and been played the pawn through all this.

I'm so ashamed that we were not able to stop this......

7. *yawn*
A life is a life, regardless of the previous work done. She's been kidnapped to manipulate emotions and no other reason.

As far as I'm concerned, there was a special place in hell for these people long before they nabbed this individual.

9. As a man I find something about the kidnapping of women
particularly disturbing...

I suppose some on here may jump on me and say 'sexist' and a 'iife is a life' but hey I can't help it.

I love women - and I don't like it when they are hurt.
