How is Oregon "Barely Kerry"? |
|
http://www.electoral-vote.com/ I think of Oregon as being one of the most liberal states.

On their site they even claim to be working on the the presidential campaign as a selling point ! Hmmm. Wonder what kind of service they could provide for a president ?

2. Oregon is two little islands of liberalism... |
|
floating in a sea of conservatism.
In fact, it was just last year we struck interracial marriages from being outlawed in the state consititution, via referendum. And there was no shortage of people who voted against it.

4. They should change that to "Squarely Kerry" |
|
"Kerry Carries Oregon", or "Merrily Kerry". I just posted a thread this morning about how the Evil Bush campaign has given up on Oregon.
I just heard it on the news this morning. The thread is here somewhere.

7. Portland is liberal - the rest of the state is NOT |
|
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 02:23 PM by Selwynn
Lived there for a long time, parents and best friend still live there. Oregon is a split between urban and rural. It's rural areas are about like Idaho. Its urban areas, specifically Portland and Eugene, are liberal.
It's a split.

9. Look East to the cowboy country. |
|
Nuthin' but bubbas and their obedient little wifeys thumpin' the bible and watchin' NASCAR in between snorts of crank and vats of Budweiser and churnin' out little bubbas.
North Texas country.
Same is true here in Washington. The civilezed parts are to the west of the Cascades.

10. There have been several recent polls lately |
|
showing Chimp down by 6 or 7 or 8 or 9 points.
Oregon will be blue -- bank on it.
If Oregon goes red, it means that there has been a nationwide Bush landslide, and Oregon's electoral votes would be irrelevant anyway at that point, but that's not going to happen.

12. Think of Strategic Vision polls as the GOP's "best case scenario" |
|
Overall, Oregon is NOT a liberal state. There is a serious culture war happening here, between ecologists and resource extractors, between religious hardliners and gay marriage supporters, between urban progressives and small-town traditionalists. This is not unique to Oregon; it's the same battle happening all over the country. Oregon just happens to have a very precarious balance.
