I'm reading Michael Moore new book today, when I feel a lump in my throat. |
|

As most of you know, Michael Moore is out with a new book, WILL THEY EVER TRUST US AGAIN? LETTERS FROM THE WAR ZONE. I was reading it on my lunch break today when I came to a letter from "M.B," whose son Michael is stationed in Baghdad--at Abu Ghraib, no less.
When I got to this part, a lump formed in my throat: "I had tons of people at DemocraticUnderground.com sending Michael and the rest of his unit (care) packages." Suddenly, I was 99% certain that I knew who M.B. was. (I considered posting her DU screen name but have decided against it.)
Now that I had this knowledge, M.B.'s letter became even more harrowing for me to get through. She spoke of her husband having had a nervous breakdown. If M.B. is the DUer I'm thinking of, her husband was subsequently killed in a car crash, and the military allowed Michael to come home for the funeral.
When last I heard, M.B. (again, if she's who I think she is) was trying like hell to get her son out of having to return to Iraq. Unfortunately, I haven't seen anything about it posted to DU recently.
Hey M.B., are you out there? If so, can I trouble you for an update? Thanks! :pals:

1. Oh man, I read that in one sitting |
|
It just broke my heart too. When I saw her letter, well, I had the same reaction.
It's quite a book, to put it mildly.

I am glad she is in MM's book, though.

3. When did the book come out? |
|
Do the soldiers name themselves? They'll get in big trouble, no?

As for the soldiers naming themselves: Moore says in his intro that he recommended anonymity to all the soldiers whose letters he printed. Nevertheless, a surprising number of them chose to have their full names included in the book. Moore further states that if the Pentagon gives any of those soldiers a hard time about it, he'll make damned good and sure the whole world finds out!

12. I never thought , 4 years ago, that the * admin would take |

such a toll on my family. Not in my wildest nightmare. Yes, I wrote Moore. But I wanted to thank dem underground for being the best people I have ever known in my life. Actions speak louder then words, dont they. Truer patriotism was shown by the people here to the reservists and troops over there then by any group of human beings I have ever known. Again, I can never thank the people at DU enough.
