bushgang stopping naming of VA hosp. after Wellstone

3 state Republicans block Wellstone honor

Two years after Sen. Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash, legislation to rename the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center for him has languished on Capitol Hill because of objections from some Minnesota Republicans.

Rep. John Kline, a Republican from Burnsville, has led the opposition, arguing that the hospital should be named instead for a "real war hero."

But it's opposed by Kline and fellow Minnesota Republicans Mark Kennedy and Gil Gutknecht. That's enough to doom the bill this session.

One of Wellstone's major accomplishments was pushing the Department of Veterans Affairs to expand the number of veterans eligible for compensation for cancer-causing radiation during atomic tests.

2. Well...
I've got to admit, I know little of Wellstones record regarding military and veteran spending. Anyone have info there? Thanks in advance.

3. I think it would be a good name for a VA hospital
I mean come on, he basically fought all the time for veterans and pushed for expansion for veterans compensation for medical costs.

Repukes are ruthless and mean. They are also very ignorant.

4. The sadness just doesn't end.
It sounds like the veterans of Minnesota are going to have to get organized, and mount a heavy campaign to get this done. Maybe with the help of other veterans groups, also. Otherwise, it doesn't sound like much is going to happen.

5. Hey, they named a multi-billion dollar aircraft carrier..
after a failed one term president, Bush the first. BTW, the first thing President Kerry should do is re-name it
