DELETED post because I am not in the mood to fight with DUers.

I am not against video games, I play them often. I only worry, really worry, that the reality of Viet Nam is being replaced with a new, false reality.

Oh well!!!

1. They have made it into several video games.
Including one with an exact recreation of the riverboat battle in which John Kerry won the Silver Star and saved Jim Rassman's life.

2. One Of Many.
I would go after any freeper games, like games based on this current war which are filled with lies about what is really going on.

3. That game has been out for well over a year, along with dozens
of other games centered around Vietnam and other wars.

It's no different than any other form of entertainment which portrays war, be it movies, TV, books, etc.

7. are you taking issue with what I wrote?
do you think Viet Nam was a game, friend?

or have I misread you?

PS. I am not religious, but most people are, thus the God have Mercy statement...

11. um....
Vietnam wasn't a game....but this GAME is a game. The game is fun, it's a sequel to Battlefield 1942, which is also a fun game. Don't mean to give you an aneurism, but I'm not a bad person for playing a video game. So shut the fuck up.

5. I understand your frustration.
Unfortunately you are a bit too late. The game you mention has already been out for a little while now, and the subject of Vietnam has been used in video games since the Commodore 64.

The same thing can be said about any video game made about any prior conflict. I do believe however that these games are made solely for entertainment value and in no way constitute a glorification of war itself.

6. Uh, this game has been out for months...
And I don't see why it's wrong to make a game about vietnam. If someone wants to fight in illegal wars or any war at all based on a video game (or anything else), then that is their choice. I honestly don't see why making a video game based on Vietnam is disgusting. What's more disgusting than this is that when I was attending college in early 2003 (before the war started) we were reading a short story about dodging the draft during Vietnam in English class, and my teacher handed out a packet that tried to explain why Vietnam was a good war.

14. I think it's pretty disgusting
Not so much this game in particular - although I do think it's in bad taste - but the whole spate of war games and merchandise and advertising that's designed to cash in on the current warmongering mentality and/or suck kids into the military.

10. If you don't like it, just ignore it
The bigger stink you make about it, the more popular it will probably get.

Law of unintended consequences.

15. They have video games with WWI, WWII and other stuff I am sure
my nephews play games that mock up old Roman battles...

technically all of it could be offensive but then again..I have never seen anyone turn down profits because they may offend someone...
