Parts of a prayer distributed after Mass today at our church!
"Leaders" sure don't sound like Bush*!

Give us, O God the hearts to choose the leader who will work with other leaders to bring safety to the whole world.

Give us leaders who lead this nation to virtue without seeking to impose our kind of virtue on the virtue of others.

Give us a government that provides for the advancement of this country without taking resources from others to achieve it.

Give us insight enough ourselves to choose as leaders those who can tell strength from power, growth from greed, leadership from dominance, and real greatness from the trappings of grandiosity.

We trust you, Great God, to open our hearts to learn from those to whom you speak in different tongues and to respect the life and words of those to whom you entrusted the good of other parts of this globe.

We beg you, Great God, give us the vision as a people to know where global leadership truly Lies, to pursue it diligently, to require it to protect human rights for everyone everywhere.

3. Wow, sounds like your church didn't get "the memo"
Good thing, too! Still using the Bible instead of RW talking points.

5. My mom's minister said
Edited on Sun Oct-24-04 07:16 PM by goclark
that "we all must pray for our country during this difficult time!"

She took it to mean that he was telling everyone to vote for Kerry.

Her friends always drive her home from church. About a month ago they told me,"there is not much difference between the two."

Today they told her they were, "real worried that Bush could win."
My mom, a life long Democrat, told them that she was really worried because Bush was a Liar!

She believes they have changed their tune, they are now voting for Kerry.

7. Sounds like my Church
I go to a Presbyterian Church, mainline Churches have many Liberal causes. It was not until the rise of the evangelicals that Religion was pulled into politics. Our parking lot is filled with Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers.

9. Here is the one we got today.
Prayer For Voters

Gracious and loving God, let your Spirit be with us today. Hear our
prayers, and increase in us the will to be followers of your Son Jesus.
Help us to draw on the resources of our faith as we use the
opportunities of our democracy to shape a society more respectful of
the life, dignity, and right of the human person, especially the poor
and vulnerable. We ask the through Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, on God forever
and ever. Amen.

13. It's not vague for those it was intended for
One of the nice things about being religious is it opens up a whole other vocabulary, where words have meanings that secularists don't normally perceive. bush* takes advantage of this a lot with obscure biblical allusions that secularists don't notice, but you can be sure the Rightous Right understands.

But there are plenty of religious liberals, and they know how to play the same game, and unlike the RR, the Bible's teaching are consistent with our agenda.

14. Cardinal Ratzinger, you're joking.
Surely you know what denomination calls Sunday service "Mass".

11. Would you post this again ...
and invite others to join, or add their own thoughts? We had prayer/thoughts/vibrations threads before each debate -- and maybe they helped!

12. I didn't post this to start a prayer thread or anything like that, rather
it was to show the content as being opposite of Bush*'s "leadership" record. It was apparently written by Benetvision in Erie PA.

15. That one is great..

Every Sunday at mass I listen to "We pray for our leaders in their struggle against terrorism, and we pray for nations torn asunder by terrorists." All rightwing crap.

I had to smile yesterday, though. In the communion line a woman across from me had a large Kerry-Edwards pin on her jacket.

On edit - At my church right before the collection, they recite a prayer cooked up by the priest basically asking the parishoners to be generous when the basket comes around. Seems to me if that's allowed during the mass, the prayer you've reprinted should be given a prominent place during mass next week, and not just handed out to be read -or not-afterwards.
