1. both Kerry and McCain have photos at a museum in Vietnam
This has to do with their visits after the war to find remains of missing servicemen.

2. No he is not !!! That is a lie uttered by Swift Boat Liars !!!
Why the heck would the Vietnamese communists honor John Kerry for his contribution to their victory with a photo from 1993 captioned: Communist Leader (i forget the name) meets with congressmen and veterans delegation ?

Yet in the same museum we have photos of Jane Fonda taken in 1971 and David Wilson (a draft card burner) in 1965 with their names mentioned in the captions ????

The Swift Boat Liars are trying to distort the truth !!!

4. Kerry gave his testimony in 1971. Yet the Vietnamese who obtained photos
of Jane Fonda with Madame Binh and David Wilson burning his draft card, couldn't obtain a photo of Kerry at his 1971 testimony even though he was on national tv ?

WHAT A CROCK !!! Friggin Swift Boat liars. Kerry had nothing to do with the Vietnamese victory !!! Otherwise they would have gone to extraordinary links to honor him !!! 1993 photo without his name even mentioned anywhere in the museum. Gimme a break.

Kerry and his fellow VVAW soldiers wanted to bring their "brothers home" in 1971 !!!

5. I'm surprised that the wingnuts are still using that "Communist" slur
For one thing, both Vietnam and China allow wide-open freedom for business and commerce while repressing people politically. This makes them more fascist than Communist, no matter what they call themselves.

Yes, Kerry and McCain are in the museum because of their efforts to find MIAs.

As for "voting against Vietnamese rights," that may be a distorted characterization about voting for diplomatic recognition of Vietnam. In the end, only the Vietnamese government can do anything about "Vietnamese rights," and these things tend to play out on their own timetable, no matter whether the U.S. recognizes a government or not.

For thirty years, the U.S. government refused to give diplomatic recognition to mainland China. China was barely inconvenienced by that and put forth some of its most repressive policies during the 1949-1979 period: the anti-landlord campaign, forced collectivization, the Great Leap Forward, the ensuing famines, and the Cultural Revolution.

10. worried...no, not really.
I just know that this is now going around my wife's office and I can only imagine that nobody in the office knows the context of what took place. I am just trying to find out for myself, so I will know and so I can also inform my wife.

12. There is only one response to any Right-Wing garbage like this:
And it must have been said a million times on this board. Ask them to prove it. See, anybody can make up anything about anyone. And you can't disprove a negative. If anyone says anything to you in the future that sounds like BS, ask them to prove it. If they provide you with some evidence, THEN you can come to DU to discuss it and we can evaluate the "evidence".

One more tip: www.snopes.com.

19. They don't even need to understand that.
If your wife wants to respond to this, all she has to say to this person (in earshot of everyone else who heard this person's propaganda) is "I told my husband what you said about Kerry and he looked and looked but couldn't find any verification of that. Do you know where he could find some proof of this story?" Or, your wife could simply say to them all, "If you want to base your votes on unsubstantiated rumors, that's your prerogative. If you want to look around you and see all the jobs that have been lost, see all the soldiers who've been killed and maimed in Iraq where we haven't found any WMD, see the civil rights we are all losing, see our schools that don't have enough money because Bush chose not to fund NCLB... etc."

27. Gee, someone engages with people who respond to a thread they started!
How odd! (/sarcasm)

Sorry, chimpy but you're leaning heavily over the line here. As far as I've seen, all that's happening here is normal back& forth between people. Perhaps I should alert on YOUR post because by unfairly casting aspersions on Elbowroom you've prmpted ME to respond (thus bumping the thread up once again).

Thanks for the "guard duty", but THAT level of scruitny for provacateurs just wastes everybody's time.

24. I've heard this from coworkers too, Elbowroom
I'm sorry that some people have simply taken to attacking you, but this has been a crazy election. Don't hold it against them!

Just keep pointing out the facts to these coworkers, even if they are lost and will vote Shrub anyway. At least then you can say that you tried. And if all else fails, just send them a link to an enlistment form. (I've been trying for 6 months, and have yet to get a repub to take me up on the offer to help them fill one out.)

On a side note- People on this board who are in the bluer areas of the country really have NO CLUE what it is like living in the red states. Lucky you. :-)

28. it is NOT a communist museum
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 12:53 PM by LSK
Here is the freeper story:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=38738

Here is what the place REALLY IS:
http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-2900606-war_crimes_museum_ho_chi_minh_city-i

The photo was taken in 1993 when Kerry AND McCain were in Vietnam regarding POWs.

Typical reTHUG propaganda which takes a small fact and IGNORES other facts and twists it into a lie.
