Suggestions for Supreme Court Appointees under a Kerry Administration?
Edited on Mon Oct-25-04 04:19 PM by NNguyenMD
ELIOT SPITZER!!!

He's near perfect, environmenal defender, corporate crime fighter, and he's a kick ass NYS attorney general. And if Kerry's already got someone else in mind for US attorney general, then he ought to consider Spitzer for the Supreme court. Though it he doesn't seem to have much experience as a judge, and I figure most dems would rather see him fill a long tenure as US Attorney General first, if I were Kerry he'd be my first pick to fill a free spot on the Supreme Court.

What an excellent choice for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court! Indeed. The Court has needed some balance for so damn long. There are no so-called "liberals" on the U.S. Supreme Court since the resignation of Justices Marshall, Brennan and Warren. That's a long long time. The Court today is so damn far to the right that the Justices who were moderate or centrists are now considered "liberals! Even the pragmatists are now seen as "liberals."

Barney Frank is highly intelligent w/ an ability to recall instantaneously. He has a very quick, even-handed, incisive wit that he often uses upon his opponents. Frank is well-known for his ability as expert on the U.S. House rules and procedures -- no small task! Frank graduated at the top of his law school class at Harvard, and he continues his brilliance as a U.S. representative. What a hell of choice he would be as Justice. We, here, in Massachusetts are very proud to have him as one of our U.S. Representatives.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

upon edit, added: We need balance, thus a liberal is essential. Other great choices would be Mario Cuomo and William Jefferson Clinton. However, Clinton is a moderate-liberal; whereas, Mario Cuomo is more a solid liberal. Both are lawyers.

17. Yes! Barney Frank, as a gay man- first hand experience with discrimination
IMO, he is a liberal who has experienced discrimination, he would be the intellectial heir of Thurgood Marshall. Perfect voice for justice for the underdogs of our society!

23. Barney Frank would never be confirmed
The Rethug gay bashers in the Senate would filibuster his nomination to the point of making the Senate Democrats look compliant by comparison--and then call us obstructionists!

24. It's called politics, shine and whine for votes and money . . .
then a president may chose to make recess appointments thereby side-stepping immediate Senate approval. Wha? George Walker Bush hasn't "recess appointed" racists? misogynists? white supremacists? and corporate lackeys?

Of late the honorable seem to be only the Democrats. That is, since the Dixiecrats jumped ship into the ranks of the Republican Party playing the fear and power card to their fellow congressional members. Wha? You haven't heard of Dick Armey? Tom DeLay? Frist? Hatch? Lott? And that all-time rightwingnut in the whitehouse who hears the voice of God?

In short, any president may make a recess appointment when the Senate is out of town (in recess).

7. Circuit Judge Mark Bennett
He is from the Northern District of Iowa. One of the most amazing minds I have witnessed. His legal opinions are worth a read. He has the mind to be the liberal Scalia.

13. Supreme Court Judges..
...should be selected, based on how they would interpert the Constitution alone, not what the cause du jour is.

Years of sitting on a bench should be the yardstick of measurement, not the fact that he was a "kick ass" State Atty General. Attorney Generals Enforce the Law. \\ Case in point, Janet Reno..she enforced the law in Clintons adminstration, she "kicked ass" but was the loss of life worth it.

As for Spitzer, he needs seasoning and he needs to divorce himself totally from politics as all of the surpremes should be. Then and only then can the court be fair and equitable.

16. Justice need not be a bench warmer
Earl Warren was a Republican governor. One of the finest SCJs ever. You don't even have to be a lawyer.

whether that's a racist slam. an employer-employee gender/sex discrimination slam. a redneck slam. or merely a plain ole misogynist slam.

Any way it's looked at, it's a flaming bash.
