More reading on Dominionism & Bush.
http://www.disinfopedia.org/wiki.phtml?title=Dominionism

From the above source :

“ Some evangelical Christians, however, are skeptical that such doctrines exert much direct influence on the Bush adminstration's specific policies. Alan Jacobs, a professor of English at Wheaton College, Illinois, writes . . . “

From me :

I am wondering if it matters whether Bush is actually a Dominionist or not as long as his voters think they are and he is . . . . ? The “Left Behind” series is extremely popular with millions of people. Note also that the above reference relates to “direct influence” which wouldn’t be the only, nor necessisarily the most powerful, influence in the situation.

5. One of my collegues at work graduated from Wheaton.
He's very anti-Bush* and liberal. That's part of why I get sick of this shit; you're all talking about my friend that way.

6. Unfortunately, your friend is probably the exception. Not everybody
who graduates from there or other such schools is still a fundie. Maybe their parents MADE them attend and they didn't like it anyway, or maybe there's some other reason.

Let's don't make the same mistakes as the RWers/freepers/fundies - I'm talking about painting others w/ a such a broad brush. We're the ones who understand nuance and shades of grey, so let's act like it!

And LoZoccolo, I'm sure the statement wasn't aimed directly at your friend, so please don't take it so personally.

7. He is actually a fundamentalist.
He's into debating about evolution (the interesting part is that along with that he has a real strong animal-rights ethic which probably goes hand-in-hand with his beliefs about creationism). And he's a really cool guy. You're right about nuance. I really don't see the point of the broad-brushing around here other than maybe clearing the way for putting people in camps or some kind of eliminationist solution. Or it's just masturbatory or something. I don't think anyone was specifically talking about him, but that's the point. It's all general talk, perhaps by people that should get out more.

3. Jesus Christ! Are you here again?
That's the punch line of a joke.

So, if we can keep the government out of the hands of the fundies, then Christ cannot return?

Sounds like a plan!

9. Right; the world's going to end - sounds rational.

I'm not at all concerned with randomly insulting religious nutjobs; they're sad devotion to ancient ideology is amusing at best, and terrifying at worst.
