this Bush fund-raising ploy is the saddest thing I've heard yet. |
|
My spouse came home from Cub foods this evening with this sad tale: she's in line at the 'service counter,' the one where you can buy stamps etc., and ahead of her is an elderly gentleman....in his 80s unquestionably...very thick glasses yet he still appears to have poor vision. He has two $100 bills in his hand and he is asking for a $200 money order. The old guy tells the clerk that this money has to get in the mail right away. He has an envelope and a blue 'return receipt' that looks like the part of a bill that you send in with your payment. My wife gleans a quick look at the sheet: printed at the top is something like "George W. Bush Emergency Fund." It also had the word "urgent" printed on it.
The old fellow tells the clerk that he just HAS to get this money to the president "to keep the liberals from taking over our country." This appeal from the Bush campaign came in that day's mail. He'd gone straight to the supermarket, stopping at the bank branch there to take out $200 in cash.
He needs her help to fill out the form. The clerk kind of rolls her eyes.As he steps aside my wife sets her stuff on the counter and says, "I wonder if he doesn't need that money more than George Bush does." The clerk replies, "I'm tempted to try and find out if he's got kids we could call and ask if they know about this." But they decided to hold their tongues.
so here is what I think we have: The Bush criminals decided -- or, more accurately, they've probably planned this all along...to squeeze a few more dollars out of elderly contributors with a last-minute phoney appeal to oldsters, telling them that the country will go to hell in a twinkle if they don't send in more money. I'd love to see the letter that came with the return receipt.
at first i was shocked to hear about this but upon reflection i think it's just part and parcel of this gang of thugs. They're scaring the shit out of old people and then robbing them.
anybody else aware of something like this in their community? (we're in St. Paul Minn.)
he steps aside and

5. Not suprised as these same folks like Falwell, Robertson, scam old folks |

Isn't re-electing Bush a "relgious" cause. Gotta keep Democrats from getting in office and taking away our Bibles, our "under God" "In God We Trust", our "10 Commandments" hanging everywhere, and most of all, to keep queers from getting married and taking us all to hell.

That's what the Republicans remind me of- televangelists. They both use fear to get ignorant people to send them money and to support them. It never really crossed my mind before but that's a very apt assessment.

10. He deserves to lose his money. |

"...he just HAS to get this money to the president "to keep the liberals from taking over our country."
Fuck him.
After he's sent his retirement fund to the Chimp and has to go on welfare (not to mention everything else he already gets) Maybe he'll reflect on just who it was that fought to get him that "safety net".
Dumb-ass. It'd never occur to him, if he lived to be 200, that if the "Liberals" weren't here, he'd be living in a poor-house or an alley someplace instead of getting $200 money orders to send to Shrub.
And tomorrow, he'll be back with another $100 to help Jerry Foul-Well keep "Them Liberals" from forcing young girls to get abortions and become Lesbians....
