4. very nice!
There was a nice lady standing at an intersection this am as I took my son to school. She had a Kerry sign and her dog had a "Labs for Kerry" sign, too. It was cute and nice to see in the early am. Good for her. I love how fired up people are!

I have a bumper sticker on my car "George W bush, Killing for Christ"
I get a lot of confused looks from the freeper types. I can just see their brains frying now.

6. the papal report recently issued
indicated that promoting war was an evil in the same sense that the Catholic Church sees abortion as an evil. Although I think churches should stay out of politics, many people seem to forget that war is an assault on life and that Bush's policies are hardly Christian in the Catholic or other sense.

13. How recently was the papal report you refer to issued?

Wondering if I missed anything. . .

Take the quiz at http://www.votingcatholic.org and see how far apart Bush* and the US Conference of Catholic Bishops are on the issues. Kerry is much more in line with the bishops than Bush is.

Iraq: It’s Time for US to Think of an Elegant Exit

~snip~

. Truly free and fair elections are held, producing a new Iraqi government that accurately reflects the will of the Iraqi people.

• This new government promptly asks the United States to withdraw all its troops within a fixed, relatively short period. — say, three to six months.

• The United States, in compliance with the “democratically expressed will of the Iraqi people”, agrees to do so and takes immediate, visible steps to demonstrate that it is doing so.

• The United States also promises to contribute massive reconstruction aid to Iraq over a sustained period of years after its withdrawal, such aid to be paid directly to the Iraqi government to spend as it sees fit, as is American aid to Israel. (Truly massive aid would cost much less than maintaining American forces — and be much more appreciated.) If Iraq chooses to characterize this aid as “reparations”, the United States should not object. It would go without saying (and should not be said) that the United States could cut off this aid at any time if it deemed Iraqi policies too anti-American. Given the destitute condition of the Iraqi economy and infrastructure after years of war, sanctions and occupation, any Iraqi government would have a strong interest in behaving in a manner that kept this money flowing.

15. This is great! ST. Pete for peace has a great site, too,

that I'll be exploring later. Takes me back to the fall of 1968, when Eugene McCarthy spoke at my college in St. Pete. So long ago, yet here we are stuck in another senseless war.
