i am not an optimist by nature,
but with all the dirty politics going on, i really believe that shrub and company have done internal polling and know they are behind.they are getting really desperate, i can sense it.

1. Uh-huh. This recent turn he's doing on gay civil unions
is an indication to me that his "base strategy" isn't working as well as they planned.

2. I agree.
When I thought they just listened to the skewed national polls, I was actually glad that * was ahead. I knew it was flawed and basically BS, but I thought as long as the Repugs and especially the * campaign thought they were winning, we would be spared any really dirty, last minute tricks.

However, then I realized that they don't rely on national polls, but on their own polls. Silly me. :) Then, I got worried, because while they would want to the national polls to look like they're winning no matter what, they would actually want good info from their internal polls so I agree with you. They know they're behind. I think they've found out they're WAY behind. And they're desperate.

3. Yes, they're also paving the way for post-election shenanigans.
If they get enough people believing they were ahead in the polls and thereby throw the Kerry win into question, they can mobilize their faithful to apply pressure to reverse the outcome.
