Conny McCormack doesn't get it- or choses to ignore the obvious.

Is E-Voting Secure?
Oct. 25, 2004

Nearly one third of voters (as many as 45 million people) are expected to cast their ballots electronically in next week's presidential election.

60 Minutes Wednesday correspondent Scott Pelley reports there is a concern that the new paperless voting systems could be vulnerable to software bugs. One expert also tells Pelley that if the software is not properly protected from tampering, it could make e-voting an "electoral weapon of mass destruction." Pelley's report will be broadcast on 60 Minutes Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

One of the 29 states using the new electronic voting is Florida. Charlotte Danciu's father ran for the Palm Beach city council in 2002, the first election that used the new electronic machines. He lost the election, but what upset Danciu even more were the calls she received from voters after Election Day.

"There was this elderly woman on the phone. and she's like, 'Miss Danciu, you don't know me but I kept trying to vote for your dad last night,'" recalls Danciu.

4. How utterly "freepublican" of them to be touting this NOW...
We have been obsessing on this for what??? THREE YEARS??? writing people, calling people, howling into cyberspace, and 6 days before the possibly most apocalyptic election of all times, the FINALLY decide to do a story on it???

Oprah should have had a weekly segment. It should have been on "The View"...the nightly news (as a regular feature)..

So now in the waning hours of the campaign, they will poop out a few scary statistics, and fill people's heads with even more doubt..(might actually play into the "gee, my vote don't count..why bother..." folks)..

I do not see this as a victory..

It's like being told in the delivery room, that you are pregnant..:eyes:

6. I think they've been working on it a while
And getting stonewalled.

Agree, a bit late. But if it makes a few wake up and vote on paper, so much the better. And if it gets people to begin picking better local and state election officials, so much the better.

But I'm still waiting to see if they are allowed to air it. Given the flak aimed at CBS lately, you'd think someone had an agenda against them, wouldn't you?

Maybe they felt they had to wait.

9. Ooooops......sorry
I knew that....duh....

While it may be late in coming, it still may help wake more people up. The more who get involved, the better.

Voting belongs to the people, no some long ago areed on arrangement between election officials and vendors.

The flip side of that is, get responsible people on the job and then give them the budget to do it. Sometimes I think some things are purposely underfunded.

8. I totally agree with the poster that said this is too little, too late....
Yep, RedEagle, I'm glad they are finally getting it out there, regardless of the timing. But it is INFURIATING to me that we have been hammering elected officials AND the media for so many years, and we finally have a brand new scandal that could have been averted.

It's as if the people who are in the media, and other positions of power, are so phucking irresponsible in how they're managing the affairs of this nation....running the country like some sort of a Jerry Springer show.

What you say about electing new election officials is so true, and there needs to be a huge movement to get this done in all 50 states.
