Who Would Jesus Bomb?

I got a chance to use that question in a discussion with a Bush supporter yesterday.

A young woman about 18 I would guess, was talking to me about politics. After finding out I would be voting for Kerry a hurt look came across her face and she mentioned she would be voting for Bush because "he's a Christian man".

At that point I stopped her said "think about this next question ... who would Jesus bomb"? Her answer was "nobody, Jesus was non-violent". My response was "Exactly my point. Bush is not a Christian though he claims to be one. As Governor of Texas he allowed 147 executions to take place, a couple of which were of innocent persons. Since taking office he has started an unjustified war based on lies. Those aren't the actions of a Christian man."

The look on her face was priceless. Normally the discussion would have ended there, but she became curious and I was able to talk to her about the missing weapons and explosives, the potential draft if he gets re-elected, and a few other things before the conversation got side-tracked by others and other topics.

There's no way to know for sure if she'll vote for someone other than Bush, but she definitely wasn't as certain of his claims as she had been.

Nice to have a conversation instead of an arguement once in a while and still get a chance to make your points.

11. I live in a conservative town

and that is the line they use to explain their vote for *. I try to reason with some of them using that phrase ("Who would Jesus bomb?") Alas, some are so far gone, I just shake my head in pity. Anyone who claims that * is a Christian must have little understanding of the religion.

I tried to get my wife, a professional graphic artist, to do up an Abu Graihb sign that said "Who would Jesus torture?" but she said it was too nasty and wouldn't go for it.
